When you are planning a trip about what sort of MPH do you figure to AVG for the trip. Im not talking about riding MPH. For example the wife and I rode from central ILL to Kansas City. 375 miles. In a car I would have figured 65 to 70 MPH maybe 5 1/2 hrs. On the bike what with stopping for gas and butt breaks it took closer to 7 hrs. There was one looong stretch of 45 mph for construction, but still that brought the AVG MPH down to about 50. Just curious how much time you plan for on long trips.
There are too many variables to really provide an answer in MPH. However, if it's trip planning, a good day's riding should be able to get you a consistent 400 miles per day. If you are looking to get there quickly, via interstate, that average could double.
On a 2-up trip using a mix of roads, the 400 mile average should hold.
I use a program from microsoft, called Streets and Trips. It gives real time data for construction, detours, ect. You can set the stops where you want them and set the amount of time for each stop too. Works like a charm. That thing is usually within 1/2 hour of dead on.
I figured 2 hours per 100 miles two up. That inlcudes stops very 60-125 miles for gas, stop for45 minutes at a Dennys or such for lunch, 8 hour day give you 400 miles.
Now, i cruise at about 80 MPH, so sometimes it's more miles, sometimes less, but thats the avergae for a day.
65 cross country with the boys... 60 on the backroads with the boys..........and 55 if the brides with me and that being said I have to "motivate" her from time to time to keep it all headed in a forward direction !!!
