Is the 7 Freedom windshield taller or shorter than stock; and if so, by how much?
It's taller
This is another personal preference things. Plus how you are built factors in too. I'm 6'2" with a short inseam Since my height is mostly in my torso I need a much taller shield to be happy. I just put a 10" freedom shield on my SGS and finally found the sweet spot.

2 taller
Im 63 and long waisted so I sit tall in the seat. I ran an 8 Freedom Shield most the time. Worked great. I do ride solo so I have no idea if that would have been enough for a passenger.
Well, it came on the bike, and it has a part number, so you can order it, I presume.
Edit - I just checked, it's not black. Now I'm outraged!
Must have been the shadow/lighting when I took the pic
LOL how could you not have noticed?
Yeah, many of us hate this little item, especially after changing the chrome bits on the engine of the Special, it really stands out.
OP I have thought about removing it, leaving the bike on my J&S jack while sending it out to be powdercoated, it seems to be the most economical solution. I believe the last time we discussed this in Touring, a black jiffy stand was pretty pricey!

Im 62 also with a short inseam. I have a 2018 Tri Glide and the top of the stock windshield is level with the tip of my nose which is what most people say should be the correct height. For me Im getting slight buffeting on the top of my head. Im wondering if I a stock height with the recurve would help with that? I was also looking at the Freedom touring model windshield which they say is 3 wider on each side at the base and 2 wider going up the sides.
To be honest, I wear a full face helmet most of the time, so I didn't realize the level of wind buffeting I was getting. Over the summer I rode with a half helmet at speed and noticed it for sure. I actually raised and lowered my head while riding and got a sense for how much higher of a windshield I would need. It seemed to be about 2". So yes, stock is 5" and I went with a 7". That height increase, along with the recurve in the shield eliminated the buffeting for me.
I've been a happy customer of Freedom Shields for years! Great quality, solid thickness with well finished and polished edges, no vibration and no distortion. Keep in mind that although you need to consider overall height ALSO keep in mind that the tilt of the windshield also affects the installed height (typically a bit lower obviously).
However, thanks to their very liberal "exchange/return policy", if the one you order isn't perfect they'll gladly accept your return or exchange.......provided you don't remove the protective paper when you test ride it. I know from experience there's no need to remove that protective paper to determine the proper height on your test ride.
