Should Harley put reverse in tranny
I installed the Champion reverse gear on my 95 Road King with a factory TLE sidecar and I have never looked back. I can't even imagine ever riding a sidecar rig or a trike again without reverse. Imagine never having to patiently wait again for the guy in front of you at the gas pump to move before you can. Think about all the times you have had to pass up the choice parking spot in front of the restaurant, simply because you couldn't manuever your rig into it. BTW, it is also a great conversation starter at your local hangout. There is one thing that I have to make sure I warn you about...be very cautious about steering when backing your rig up...I am not kidding about the steering geometry and the tendency to slam the forks hard left or hard right against the steering stops.
Regarding your questions about installing the Champion reverse gear on a six speed tranny. Give Champion a call and ask to speak to "Yon" or "Craig". Champion designed and manufactures their reverse gear (with the exception of the actual gear set, they are hardened and Champion has them manufacturedtheirspecifications) and they can give you the straight answers regarding fitment and application. The folks at Champion are courteous, helpful, andbelieve in customer satisfaction. I plan to build a custom trike and when that time comes I will most certainly use one of their trike kits for the conversion.
Hope this is helpful,
Joe

There will be a gyro on the bike that will keep it upright, mandatory by epa standards, and a reverse gear, with radar backing assist, and only add $20k to the package, yup, only a mere $20k. All us working Joes can afford than now. (this has all been speculation, but probably close to the truth)
Is there some kind of code that you have to back in to a parking space?
Common sense would or should tell you that if you down hill back in if
your up hill pull in. I hope your not backing in cause you think its cool or
you saw it in a movie!

but no, they would probably screw it up. Inovation just isn't in their capabilities.
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
When they first started installing electric starts on the Harleys.....riders said, "I'll always use the kickstart though." The kickstart never got used......
They first started putting disc brakes......some riders said,"Great, while others said,"No, it'll take away from the old days."
They first started putting belt drives.....alot of riders, said, "Cheap crap."
The EVO came out......alot believed Harley sold out to the Japanese.
When the transmissions went to five speed.......people thought, "I may have five speeds now, but I'll only use the first four though."
EFI came out......alot said,"It just isn't the same anymore." I'll never buy a Harley with EFI."
This all brings us up to the Twin Cam now......All come with EFI, disc brakes, six speed transmission, belt drive, and nice other things that people first frowned upon many years ago. Innovation is a good thing.....look what we have to day. Reverse should not be standard.....but should be an option.
Those that say, NO. Would you still buy an Electra Glide with drum brakes, carburetor, four/five speed transmission, Points, and kickstart only? I don't miss that stuff one bit!
A reverse gear would be a nice welcome on my Electra Glides!
