Default RE: Should Harley put reverse in tranny

ORIGINAL: EVOrider

I voted yes!!!!!

When they first started installing electric starts on the Harleys.....riders said, "I'll always use the kickstart though." The kickstart never got used......

They first started putting disc brakes......some riders said,"Great, while others said,"No, it'll take away from the old days."

They first started putting belt drives.....alot of riders, said, "Cheap crap."

The EVO came out......alot believed Harley sold out to the Japanese.

When the transmissions went to five speed.......people thought, "I may have five speeds now, but I'll only use the first four though."

EFI came out......alot said,"It just isn't the same anymore." I'll never buy a Harley with EFI."

This all brings us up to the Twin Cam now......All come with EFI, disc brakes, six speed transmission, belt drive, and nice other things that people first frowned upon many years ago. Innovation is a good thing.....look what we have to day. Reverse should not be standard.....but should be an option.

Those that say, NO. Would you still buy an Electra Glide with drum brakes, carburetor, four/five speed transmission, Points, and kickstart only? I don't miss that stuff one bit!

A reverse gear would be a nice welcome on my Electra Glides!
actually, I would love a carb and a kick start. I also happened to buy the first year that no model was hard mounted and unbalanced. I like the brakes for performance reason, as well as the five speed. I am looking for an old, leaky, kick start, four speed, hard mounted, hard tailed, shovel to buy!

I can understand that some may not want the reverse; it's just not old school. I for one would be a very happy camper with it. I am 5'7" at 135 lbs. I can handle my 07 uc without much problems. I even back my bike out from a store or whatever with my wife on it with very little problems. However, I am aslo disabled from Vietnam. There are many days I simply would not ride much or at all because of backing the bike out of my shop. It's bad enough to have pain on goingly but it is worse needing the freedom that only riding can give not be able to do it. With a reverse I will get a little more riding time. I am all for it. Yes I will remain on 2 wheels untill it gets bad enough that it becomes a safety factor.

I have busted up my ankle three times now.Not a lot left to it.The first thing I did when I bought my 2006 ultra classic was to install a reverse gear from Champion.I love it!It is a whole lot easier to engage the reverse than to try and pull the bike backwards, even on flat ground.Reverse may not be for everyone but it has is advantages.

Really don't care. I had it on a Goldwing, in two years I think I used it twice ... only because I had it. Guess I was used to not getting myself into situations that needed it. May be useful for newbies that aren't used to not getting into a jam.

IF you are disabled/have a side car fine. But, as has been mentioned, there are after market reverse systems you can buy. For the rest of us, read majority, we don't need it. It would be another needless thing that adds to the cost of the bike. Do you really think Harley would have it as an option? Really, what options do they give us now? Color? Model? Maybe wire wheels?

Looks like 44% would like Harley to put in a reverse.
31% don't like the idea of a reverse
and 24% didn't care.

I am vertically challenged. So I just lowered the bike, no more problems. If you look hard enough, you can always find just the right parking spot. my .02 worth.
