Default Lifter question

I am considering a cam upgrade and may be using se adjustable push rods but not hd lifters. Seems that I read not all push rods and lifters are compatible, something about the end of the push rods not matching the shape of the cup in the lifter which eventually causes wear issues. I could be wrong about this, that's why I'm asking. So if this is true what lifters are compatible with se push rods?

If the lifter and p-rod are both made for the same engine/application they should work with each other. I can't recall hearing issues with the fit of either?

That is a new one. Unless you buy some off the wall cheap brand I would not give it another though.

Never heard that one either. I've used the screaming eagle pushrods with s&s, woods, the hylifts from wfo Larry and never seen or had any issues with them. It's good practice to put new parts on new parts or there could be some accelerated wear but I've used new lifters on used pushrods twice on my bike and 80k later there's no signs of excessive wear. Don't believe everything you read on the internet...especially what I said lol.

All the HD lifters use a standard 3/16 radius socket as the pushrod uses a 3/16 radius ball end. The only possible issue will be with pushrods that have overhang near the lifter cup and the lifter uses a snap ring or some other form of retention where the 2 parts collide. It's very rare and from what I've seen SE pushrods don't do it..

If you are peacing together a build. part by part Stop.
If cost you nothing to talk with someone like fuel Moto. Go over your goals you budget and end up with parts that work together.
When picking a CAM header.mufflers all play a big part in ending up with a package the works.
You you have may work great with one CAM and so so with another.
Someone like Fuel Motor can help you assemble a package that meets your goals and budget..

As MAX said, there have been some reported issues pertaining to some pushrods and lifter snap rings...

This was a post on another forum, from WFOLarry (Larry's Motorcycle Machine). He mentioned a problem with some S&S pushrods having interference with lifters that use a circlip (snap ring)...

It was part of a question/answer post he made on 12/14/2021. Here is what he posted on that issue:

"I used S&S pushrods & my tappets are noisy.
S&S does have pushrods that can make contact with the circlip. If you're going to use S&S pushrods email me first before you place an order & I will replace the circlip with the wire retainer."

I’m still curious why even S&S lifters have the start up rattle. Car lifters don’t have that issue. Is it the lifters, or have something to do with the design of the Harley oiling systems?
