Man, there are many that get twitchy about this. I made a remark about liking those bar/shield tank decals on a non-CVO, in a Denim Paint thread in the M8 subforum, and it went south, quickly!
I hated factory gauges on mine. No idea why HD would put such dull gauges on their bikes. Its one thing you look at all the time! Plus that yellow backlight was ugly as hell.
Bike looks great!
Black is hard to keep clean and it looks like there's no swirl marks in the paint. The backlighting in the stock gauges was terrible! To each their own...
I had the DD gauge on my fat boy so I think that would be similar to the road king gauge. It was completely unreadable in direct light. Even on the bright setting or whatever it's called for bright light.
On a SG or RG it might be ok being that the gauges are more of an upright position. But then again it might just change to be an issue instead of when sun is direct overhead to being an issue when the sun is behind you. I got a good price on the gauge used so i was willing to roll the dice. the price DD charges for the touring bikes, I am not willing to be a guinea pig again.
@gduncan I think the gauges you have now loook pretty sweet. I'm gonna have to do the same to mine

2K10FBLO thank you
Jim @ GaugeModz does all the work himself and I had an excellent experience working with him.
Installed the DD speedo assy. into my Road King in 2010 when I bought the bike. Never a problem . As far as sun the only problem I had was off the nacelle so I changed to a fairing.
I had the DDs on my 08 Street Glide and loved them. Really added (what I thought) was a very cool look to the bike. Mine were blue and I didn't notice or have any issues with bright sunlight. Perhaps with another colour it might be.
I had DD on my 2014 Limited and I didn't like them. You can't read them in direct sunlight. There is a setting that should auto change them to all white but that looks like crap and it didn't always work.
