im thinking it would be a good idea to invest in some cold riding gear any suggestions? did a google search everything elect heat is very expensive, all(serious lol) ideas will be considered. thanks
I have a Gerbing electric jacket. I paid $200.00 bucks for it. I have a thermostat I can adjust the temperature with too. Another $70.00 bucks....It`s warm and there is no price on staying warm in the cold. My BMW had heated seats and grips but I never used them that much, but I used the jacket all the time.
Buy the electric gear... it's worth every cent... but order it from Chicago Harley Davidson and get the 20% discount. I have the jacket, pants liner, gloves, double thermostat, and bought the socks from the Gerbings website. Gerbings makes the gear for Harley and you cansave some by buying their gear. All the gear has the Gerbings warranty and they're great to work with if need be.
I have , and use the Harley FXRG Jacket (nylon) and FXRG (leather) pants.
They're very expensive , but are well designed and definitely designed for and by riders.
When it gets cold here , 30's or less , I wear a t shirt , microfiber shirt , and FXRG jacket , and all is well.
A taller shield and soft lowers , and I'm good into the 20's at speeds under 55 mph.
Jeans with long underwear and chaps also work well into the 30's with lower fairings.
I also have insulated Harley gloves and wear heavy work boots when it's cold also.
I usually over dress and take off what I don't need later.
Nothing stinks more than being cold and some distance from home.

move south and don't worry about it getting cold. Also, drive your SUV only in first gear, that way you'll accelerate global warming and get rid of the cold all together!
Wow, it is supposed to be 96 here today and I'm reading about heated clothing. I don't need heated gear too often here in Florida but I do have Gerbing electric gear for riding into Alabama, Georga and South Carolina during the winter months. One thing I like about their newer gear is the ability to use a dual thermostat. That way I can control the vest seperatly from the gloves, pants and socks if it is going to be really cold. You will want to invest in a good thermostat or the Gerging gear will roast you pretty quickly.
If it is economy and warmth you want, do what I do and go to your local working mans supply store and buy an insulated work jacket, insulated bib coveralls or a one piece suit used for cold weather work sites or snowmobiling. Carhart is the most expensive brand, Work King is good too.
I find these are very warm and if large enough, very comfortable. Sure beats paying designer label prices for essentially the same thing.
