I don't think much is going to change from the 08's to the 09's. If they do come out with a watercooled bagger you might want to wait till midyear or the next year untill they have production bugs worked out.
You think they have issues now, go ahead and wait for the first year water cooled bagger and see what issues you have then. There is NO WAY!!!!! I would want the first run of a water cooled HD. Unless it was the Road Rod or V-Glide, whatever they want to call it the Road Glide with the already tested V-Rod motor, then maybe, but otherwise NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!
First year modelsaren't so bad. H-D will have alot to prove once they decide to market the H20 Glide. My Evo built in Aug 83 ran great from the beginning. If you're waiting for something better to come along you're waisting time. There's always something better coming around the next corner. Why wait ?
I suggest buying a nice low mileage, 2007 model used street glide now. Forget the dealers. You can save thousands going used and still have plenty of money to install the IDS if it has some clatter and a fuel/exhaust/intake upgrades if it's a little hot. Often, you can also get nice accessories along with a used bike for pennies on the dollar.
Then you can sell it in 3 years for say, $5000 less than you put into it for a total cost of about $140/month of ownership. Cheaper than owning an econobox car and a lot more fun.
I just got back from Sturgis and test rode several 08' baggers. Awesome.
My two buddies and I road 07, 06 &03 HD'sto SD and back to KY in 100 degree heat w/o a hitch.
As an ol' guy, i'd never buy a first year water cooled HD. that means you'll be waiting till 2010.
nobody ever got any where "waiting".
I have been wanting a harley since I was able to drive or maybe before that im not sure. I am finally financially able to buy one but have been trying to figure out which model I wanted. well I think i have it narrowed down to a street glide but after reading about the 07'touring models and all thier "problems" I think im going to wait till 09 when the liquid cooled bagger comes out. how di i know there will be a liquid cooled bagger next year? well i know someone who works in the powertrain plant in milwaukee and that is his best guess since they started building them already. but anyway i guess for now i will get a used sportbike just to get back on 2 wheels before i go spend 20gs on a harley. if it wasnt for this forum scareing me away from the 07s i would have one by now and might have a overheating, clunking and whining bike that i am not happy with.
Then you will be a TROLL on a Sportbike.[sm=bustedsign.gif][sm=happybounce.gif]
Why is it that every time someone posts a controversial subject, thay are labeled a troll? Perhaps the guy is really concerned! I never understand why different opinions and questions get people so worked up!!!
wow i think you got the wrong impression from me. i am by no means bad mouthing h-d or saying that all of the 07s are bad. i really want one. but if you heard that the new mustang was going to have 500hp next year why would you buy the 300hp now? obviously you cant believe 90% of what you read on the internet. but what will it hurt to wait 1 more year since ive been waiting 15 already? and my wife never whines. she only bitches and moans.I have a good attitude i just want to see what comes next. besides if i dontlike what i see next year ill get a great deal on a used 07 or 08. and the heat is an issue since i just relocated to dallas from milwaukee. i can barely stand walking from the car to the house. just not used to it yet.
$180 for a Fuel Pak will cure the heat issue, and IDS is standard on '08's, so go for it!
Chill a bit guys - he's got a point. If ya go in an' read these forums, you'd come away with the impression that the '07's & '08's are rollin' furnaces, unless ya learn ta read 'tween the lines and make notes as ta who's sayin' what. When ah first came on the board back in October, ah saw that very thing - but as a previous "lister" from Goldwing forums, ah already wuz used ta havin' ta "read between the lines".
Bud, ah bought mah '07 UC in November after 10 years of Goldwing ownership. We did a 3500+ mile run on vacation this year out west, an' the heat wuz never really an issue. Personally, ah'd go down an' pick the color ah want...

i would agree with the essence of this... i've rented 3 - 07 glides (two SG's, one Ultra)... two of them during mid-july on 95°+ days... heat was never a concern to me, it just didn't bother me at all... as for the trans whining or clattering?? never noticed it once except the time i lugged the motor down below 2000rpm in 6th, and it was BARELY noticeable then...
to the original poster, go rent a bike for a weekend and see what ya think, then decide...
