I lost a wheel weight on my '12 Ultra Limited... Two if I remember correctly...
I just noticed one day they were gone..... I used to detail that bike often (it was black), and never noticed a dent from the wheel weights coming off....
I never would have thought it possible until reading this thread...
I guess I was lucky... I need to do a lot of 75-80MPH cruising, just to keep up on the SoCal freeways...
Visited a dealer in Ottawa. They had 2 beautiful SGS’s with those beautiful cast wheels…and ugly wheel weights. One of which was already peeling off. Salesman said it was the only way to balance it…….also had no clue when I mentioned the position of the valve stem and dot on the tire with regard to balancing ……good grief!

I've given up expecting any salesman to understand the basic technical aspects of the product they sell.....
For example, every time I upgraded my boat... The Broker (salesman) would talk about the cushions, the carpet, and all the storage in the galley... I would roll my eyes, excuse myself, and then spend 40 minutes going through the bilge and the machinery.... I would re-emerge with my list of about 20-30 questions.... all of which the salesman would say, "I'll have to check into that and get back to you...."
Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware) has never been more important than it is today....
Can't help with the thrown weight, but I use Ride On balance products. It is a "liquid" you squirt through valve stem and it will balance wheel. Have had great results with this. Google and read the info.... there will be listing of tire sizes and how much product to use. I use it....fill with required amount, then take a 10 mile or so ride. The first portion is street speed and the last half is on highway at speed. No issues and it does not seem to settle. Sorry to see your dent!!

not just salesman, discount tire, try not to use, my girlfriend took her car to get new tires, all she ever did. We are driving and she asks if I notice the car doesnt drive right. An Audi A4 that is dealership serviced except the tires. I look and see the dots on this particular tire are all over the place on all four. Not all tires are made with dots. Longer story. Since these do its explicitly stated by the tire manufacturer to put the yellow dot at the valve stem. Then balance tire per normal balancing process. When I told the guy he said, no, its not necessary as our balancing machine is state of art and compensates. We went back and forth and I had them do it the correct way. Car rode and still rides like a dream. I then get a flat in Tennessee and go to discount as she has the warranty, and the same response there. They made us right. I wrote corporate and crickets. All I asked was to ensure their people know their job. Those dots are there for a reason. My Harley Dunlops have them and theyre always correct when I replace them. See HD service is better than some service entities out there.
