Default Need some quick help for hte experts

Hi All, new to harley and currently looking at an 06 electra glide to purchase. Went and checked it out this week, Drove great but looking over it, I saw this crack on top of the case on left hand side. I do not have any real harley experience. I've had dirt bikes, quads, and a r6, but not used to what im looking at here. Can anyone tell me if normal or not and if not, how bad to fix. Th

ank you

No thats not normal. Might just be a gauge. How I don't know. chrome inner primary is around $300ish. But if its not leaking maybe ok. Do you really want it?

My wild guess that is probably wrong, is the guy was proibably trying to grind out a bad bolt or such and lots control of the tool. But I have no clue.

With a factory service manual it is not a hard change, add $50 for gaskets and seals, might as well do primary bearing and jack shaft too, another $50 ish.

If it was a good deal, and I wanted it, I would, but if it wasn't I wouldn't. But I do suspect its just cosmetic. But what was he doing when he made the gauge???

@Rounders Thank you very much, it is an 06 with 57k and person asking 6500 obo. has newer tires, drive belt looks old and that crack is not leaking on the case. Does need some TLC. Looks like others with similar mileage going for 8k or so, was issues, was thinking 4500 bc of cost to repair that crack and belt replacement down the road.

I think that is reasonable price. Last few years things went up with covid checks. Before covid that is what I would offer.

I am not even sure you have to repair. You could do it same time as belt since primary has to come off. While people do run belts for high mileage, when they break you are stranded. Some winter I would think about. At the same time I would go through all the seals and bearins that are accessible Shifter shaft seals have habit of leaking too. With priminary off stator is really easy to change. I realize how far do you want to go.

I do suspect it is cosmetic, but would have it my mind it could someday be issue. I would not worry about when local, just a mess and have to go home.

My 2001 I bored to 95" cammed and ported, good bang for you buck. Better than EPA compliant engines. But if I bought that bike I would ride it to winter, and worry then.

Bike is worth about $4,500 - $4,800. Offer $4,000 for the work you may need to do. There may be other hidden damage you are not aware of. Looks like there is some corrosion on the cylinder fins also.

Welcome to the Forum.

From the color of cases i am guessing FLHT. So not as many features maybe. But spliting hairs on value of old bikes is tough. What do want to pay, and what do they want to sell for? How close is it? Do you like color?

07 and newer came with a 6 speed, 96 cu in, better oil pump and cam chain tensioners... 09 there was a frame update... then a couple years later harley upp'd the engine size to 103... in 2014 there were the Rushmore updates... gotta figure out your budget and whats important to you.

@Rounders @CoolBreeze3646 Thank you guys for your input and will do some research into part costs. Luckily i am pretty good with tools and have access to a bike lift, so could do myself to save on labor costs. And i would probably take rounders advise and ride thru summer and do all at once unless belt decides to leave me stranded before that.

I am not sure I would pay 6k for it. But times are funny.

Yes there have been advances, that are good. But if a guy wants to get into a harley bagger for his first time its not bad, and kinda cheap. 2006 also has the old tensioners, I would find out of if the pads have been changed. That would be high on my list. Its getting due or over due on that.

I have a 5 speed and still like it for a lot of my riding. I'd rather a bored 95" than factory 96".
