Default Tuner

I just bought a 2 into 1 exhaust for mt 2013 street glide. It will replace the system that the previous owner installed. I purchased a FP3 tuner to go along with the new exhaust. The instructions show the FP3 getting pluged in behind the left side cover. There does not seem to be any connectors under the cover and there is a existing FuelPak tuner plugged in under the seat. In assuming that the new FP3 will get plugged into under the seat after I remove the existing FuelPak. Am i correct on this and the instructions are incorrect about the FP3 gong under the side cover. Thanks for any help.

The tuner will replace the one currently on your bike, so yes, it will plug into the connection now being used for the old tuner

I realize that the new turner will replace the existing one. I was curious as to whether the existing tuner is in the correct location, the FP3 instructions clearly show the tuner being installed behind the side cover not under the seat. Is it possible that there are two locations where any tuner could get installed? I would think not and that these tuners are linked to the onboard ECM and there would only be one possible connection point? Could the existing tuner possibly be plugged into something it shouldn't be?

The important part is that it is plugged in. Where it rests depends on where you have room for it. On my 2011RK, behind the right side cover I have space where the ABS module would go if I had ABS.

I know on mine and I think many the diagnostic port is behind the left cover. You usually just detach it from its holder and plug in the fuel pack or powervision etc. it doesn’t need to stay plugged in unless you want to. maybe the existing one had enough cable length that it was left connected and placed under the seat.

The original Fuelpak (sounds like you already own, post a pic to let us see) was an interceptor device, and plugged into the ECM connector. Intercepted/modified signals to/from the ECM.
The new FP3 is a flash tuner, and plugs into the DLC (data link connector) under the left side cover.
You may be able to dial in the bike with the existing FP, and return the FP3.

so, hold on, you discovered that you have an existing FP3 on the bike? why would you replace it? connect to it via bluetooth and see if it functions as intended, if it does, send the new back. Did I miss something here? or it an older FuelPak?

I thought that too but the difference in the connection point should be pretty obvious to the op

If the original one is connected under the seat it is a Power Commander 3 or 5 which is piggybacked to the ecu. Remove it. The fp3 goes under the left side cover and plugs into the gray diagnostic port. Plug it in and connect to with Bluetooth to your phone app and then flash the new map in. Once you're done you could disconnect it as there's no need it to be there unless you want to connect your cell phone to your handlebars and look at the gauges and stuff like that.

If it is As GB says and plugged into the ecu and you replace it with the fp3 also check that the O2 sensors are plugged in. Most piggyback system had you unplug them.
