I'll trade as soon as the MoCo gives me a good reason to - in the last 7 model years, they haven't, it's literally a carbon copy of what I'm riding now.
ditto.......

I bought this bike cause it reminded me of the Harley's I had longed for since I was a pup, and I finally have it to where I want it..and new engines and whatever the 'ell else it needs to keep 'er on the road are cheap as compared to a new one. That's one of the amazing things about old Harley's....you can still get parts for 'em. Altho I would like ABS brakes.........

Well, I bought a 1979 FLH Classic POS (Piece of Shiite) back in about 1984 . I put 25K miles on it and I won't get into the issues, but after riding it to Sturgis in '86, when I got home, I put $10K in my pocket and a PPK in the small of my back and went to each HD dealer looking for my new bike. 100 miles later, at Stubbs in Houston, I ran out of dealers and bought my 1986 FLHT. I opened the crate. 75K miles later, I still have it. It does everything I need. I have no reason to get another.

My wifes's bike: She had a '75 iron head Sporster. It was a monster, kick start only, bought as a basket case, etc. In '87, we went on a 8K mile tour on my bike. In Lethbridge, Alberta (on the way to see my grandparents), I went into the HD dealer and they had just the bike we were looking for, a black 883 Hugger. We still have it, too, with about 45K miles on it, recentely converted to fuel injection. It does everything we need and we have no reason to get another.

Bought '76 Sportster in '81 after divorce and getting out of Air Force Keep for3 years sold to my younger brother for FX, he sold it back to me in '93 and I sold it to my nephew in '94 STILL in Family and Runs great only rebuilt once by me and I do most of the wrenching for the family

Bought '79 FX in '84 rebuilt motor and ran it till a Miller Beer Truck Blew a Tire and decided the let me eat wheel well and tire for breakfast, Sold that after I couldn't get back on it - in '92

Bought '87 Softail in ,93 when I got the nerve to get back on a bike again - STILL OWN TODAY
Wifey says I have to sell it though

Bought a '07 Ultra Late Aug of '06 cause wifey has bad back and couldn't ride softail comfortably anymore - LOVE this bike plan on keep it for a while

OMG where to begin:

6x honda 90 (just cant remember the year) owned less than 2 months - it died a glorous death.
69honda 750/4 with the vetter gear owned 1 year - me car - bike-leg-car sam'ich - not fun.
6x Suzuki 360 (/sigh) owned 3 years - siezedengine at about 70 mph. stayed up but blew the back tire getting it stopped.
62 HD pan on 56 rigid frame - a wrench turner - 2 years - got tired of wrenching not riding - and the bike hated women, it just had to go
77 honda 350/4 with vetter - was a kick - 1 year - sold just before getting the beemer.
76 BMW R90S with RS fairing - my first big love - did 40K miles on this one - every weekend a long ride around Colorado.
dirt bikes - many, changed because I broke um (snicker)
[kids and long time lapse]
03, 100 year road king classic. A keeper.

I see no reason to ever move from the 03 RK. I was once asked by a stealer rep when I was going to upgrade my bike to an ultra. I told him, what makes you think that is an upgrade for me? He shut up and I hope it pissed him off.

I bough what I wanted, even though it was a strech on the budget. I love this bike. So far I have put almost 20K miles on it and look forward to crossing 100K and then some. BTW, that is not bad considering I travel over 100 days a year for business.

As for ABS - if you really want it, put it on. just need a few wires, sensors and the new puter and....

Moco told me dealers are held to a policy of not being able to showroom a tradein ten years old or more. I had my last one for 13 years and was told had I come around before ten I'd have gotten a better trade. But you know, they didn't have the 96" six speed four years ago. I'll probably start shopping again in ten years.

How long have you guys had your ride, do you trade up, if so when? What's the average length of time someone has the perticular bike they have now before they buy new?
The shortest time I kept one is 2 months. I had a Sportster that I bought new kept it 2 months and put 3k miles on it. Couldn't stand the damn thing so I bought a new FLHTCI, kept it for almost a year and a shade over 9k miles. I bought my present 06 Ultra which I have had for almost 2 years now. I'm keeping this one because I can't get excited over the new bikes, they've screwed with them to much for my taste. I'm figuring on keeping this Ultra for a good long time and buying a Goldwing as a beater.

Usually every 2 years. After I get about 50K on it I trade up to new/improved models. Last on was an 02 EGC.
I tried the German stuff after that. 05 BMW R1200RT and now that H-D has the 96/6 Speed I`m back. 07 SG and an 08 Ultra.
We shall see how long they are stay with me...P/S They are great bikes

I traded twice within a year, 04 EGS, 06 Ultra, and stopped and my streetglide..
I'll admit, I wanted an 07 Ultra... But I just liked the way the Streetglide sat.
Hindsight, should have kept the 06...
