I have a 2006 harley electra glide and rode it other day went to turn the bike off and the engine shut off but lights and radio stayed on,it's like it's in accessories,I had to pull battery cable to shut it all down. Lately I had some wires up in rear fender come in contact with rear tire I pulled the wires best I could and wrapped with electrical tape the brake light started working again which by the way is a after market led light. Anyways I pulled the ignition switch and it appears to be aligned and nothing wrong with it. Can anyone help me do I need new ignition switch regardless or what could I do to test what may be the problem
How long ago did the rear tire hit the wires? Have you ridden the bike much since that repair? I don't see much likelyhood that power could be backfeeding from wires touching that far back, more likely is the ingnition switch is getting tired.
If it was my bike, I would start by pulling the ignition switch assembly out and cleaning it thoroughly with contact cleaner. They are fairly simple switches, as you'll see once it's on the bench.
If the ignition switch cleaning didn't work, I would revisit the rear wiring, checking each wire individually, and splicing in new wires where needed (perhaps a good idea anyway - electrical tape is best for roadside 'get you home' repairs only).
Best of luck, and please remember to check back in with the solution - You could help the next guy that way.
