Default Back Surgery is taking me out of the saddle AGAIN

Well, here we go again, I'm back off my ride. In 2021 I had spinal fusion surgery for L3, L4, & L5. The recovery was brutal but once I was healed I was glad I had it done. In 2022 I was able to ride 4,500 miles from VA to SD for Sturgis and back in complete comfort. I felt better than I had in years and I thought finally this **** is over. Unfortunately by January of 2023 the nerve pain had returned and by March so had the drop foot. In late march they went in and removed a cyst and cleaned up some stenosis but that only lasted about two weeks before I was back where I started so May 16th & 18th they went back in and fused L2 to the previously fused vertebrae. That just leaves L1 in the lumbar region of my back. They braced the new hardware to the existing stuff ( sorry about the size of the pics). At this point I'm off the OXY and Morphine for a week or so, that **** messes with my gut. I can walk drive climb stairs and such. I don't lift **** and I'm off the bike for at least a couple of months so of course the weather around here has been beautiful. Ain't Mother Nature a Bitch sometimes

My 3rd back surgery caused by a MVA left me with L3 to S1 damaged , 20 screws 2 8” rods and cages around the effective discs , I didn’t recover like I did with the second surgery Neurosurgeon’s can only do so much even with a good one with that much damage

Hang tough, bro. The bike will wait patiently for you to be able to ride safely.
Cheers to a speedy and functional recovery!

I had my 3rd back surgery in August '22. I was back riding after a month of recovery, but couldn't do just the toe shifter on my 2021 FLHTK. So I put a heel shifter on it and away I went. I am now fused L1 down. No pain, only smiles when I'm on th eopen road! You will heal and be back on the bike in no time!

Default Back Surgery

Back Surgery took me 2 years to full
" heal ". I am fused 360 degrees, cut front and back, three disks were removed and totally fused, a titanium cage with two rods and eight screws in my back. Eight years later I m better but it will never be like it was before. Give yourself time to full recuperate. When the doctor says your ok if your going to ride, wear a back support brace and get a seat with a backrest. It takes time. Best of luck to you.

With as much hardware as you have, you'll have no rotation in that part of your lumbar region. Your L4 and L5 are the extreme weak spot. If those screws should become dislodged it could do major damage. I'm sure your surgeon has already advised you. I wish you a speedy recovery.
