Default Starter question

I have a 2006 Ultra Classic and ran into this problem today. I went to start the bike after a short ride and when I got on the bike I bumped the start button while it was in gear. Bike only moved slightly but when I went to start it, I had no power. I switched the ignition switch off and on and after a minute or so got power back, but when I hit the starter switch I could hear the bendix of the starter click to engage but would immediately lose power again and the engine would not turn over at all. Just the sound of the bendix clicking and loss of power. I got the bike started by bump starting it down a small hill and while riding home, the voltmeter was showing 14 volts. I'm thinking it's the bendix or solenoid of the starter. The battery is 2 yrs old, and when I got home, the bike would start using the starter switch. Any suggestions?

Start with simple things, check connections at battery, doesn't take much. While there, clean them and retighten.

You messed with the computers head i would pull the positive cable off and drain the Elec system by grounding the positive cable let sit for a couple minutes put back and should be good

What? This sounds like some bad advice.

If battery connections are good. Replace battery.

Simple first. Battery, connections .

How many miles on starter? Ever any extended cranking?

If connections are all good... Load test (not just voltage) the battery....

Sounds like either a connection(s) or bad battery....

I had a similar situiation with my 2013 switchback, when I could not find any smoking gun with the usual connections I decided to add a push button to the starter. When I had the starter out I tore the selonoid apart and fount the main wire coroded under the insulation and the contacts inside pretty badly burnt. After I cleaned everything up it did work as it should, I don't know how long it lasted because I traded it off for my FLHTK the following year due to back problems.

here is a video I made at the time, It is a little long but it may help you out.
