Boom GTS Rain Issue
It wouldn't receive routs from my phone created by the HD apps. Or if it did it wouldn't follow it as we wanted to go. Also we had signed up for the June challenge so was using it to log our miles. 18 dealer check ins...0 miles. To be fair that might not be the units fault as much as the HD apps.
Unit would say " prepair to exit the hyway on the right. Bare slight left exiting the hyway." Then as you exit and move to the left, the unit says "turn right now" But you can't because you're in the left lane.
Traveling 70 MPH down the interstate, miles from your destination. The unit screen suddenly goes into "recalculating route' then almost immediately say "exit the hyway now" as you pass the exit. Then recalculates back to the route you're on.
We needed to return to a dealer for a problem while on an interstate. I punched it the dealer. Unit took us past 2 exits to turn around at a new exit in a industrial park. Then turn left...Then turn left again. Only there was no road to turn on. Turning around we found no entrance back to the interstate. Apparently this was a new industrial park that was in the GPS yet. Had to ask for directions to get back on the interstate. Also asked how long the entrance was closed. 5 years. Really?
Taking a route out of Vegas the unit would say to turn right, into a parking lot, and out the other side back on the same route. More then once!
Another time it said to turn off a route only to parallel the road we were on for 3 blocks and get back on it.
Wrong turns, Saying turn left when the map shows turn right. It got to be a joke after awhile. Oh and this wasn't just my unit. My buddy has a '19. We'd put in the same info and both units would give totally different routes. Close..but turns that weren't needed on one that the other didn't show. Once coming thru Connecticut, while following my buddy down 95 I shouted to my buddy on the CB Wow! What are you doing? His unit was telling him to get off and not go the way he thought we wanted.
To tell the truth the unit has worked well on short trips. But these 400 mile days taxed them to the brink. I used Garmins for years and yes they made mistakes, but nothing like the Harley unit. If you created a route it would follow that route. I'm really thinking of getting another Zumo to use but I don't think I could integrate it with the Boom audio system.
The HD had a couple of small faults in the south, but nothing serious, I have seen far worse. Since the last update I did, it has been flawless in the West, where I do most of my riding.
Only once it has lead me to a dead end. The biggest problem is out of date maps and thats the biggest reason for recalculated routes. I admit mine is probably 4 years out of date but I won't pay the Harley tax of $150 to update my maps especially when I was told it a new map update came out say 6 months later I would have to pay the $150 AGAIN!!!
Of course I can use Android Auto on my bike if I wish but I do like the ride planner and the flexibility it gives me to map those obscure little back roads... BTW I use it for long multiple day rides or just local ones in a new area
i've never had it tell me to be in the left lane and then suddenly 'turn right'. i can certainly see how that would be frustrating.

This method works for me as I can check out the review, pics etc on the venue in google maps before getting there and being disappointed

The HD planner is a great resource. We use it to get mileage between ultimate destinations like Las Vegas to Blaine Wa. Then break it up into 400 mile days to get an idea of motels in the area. Make that a route and try to send it to the bike. Sometimes it worked. I'd be sitting on the bike and hit "send to bike" Nada... So now I plug the address into bike. It comes up with 4 different routes. Non of which look like the one I wanted. Maybe the next day I'd get a message "ride waiting" or something like that. Too late...I'm there already.
Most issues are "user" caused...see my following response.
The fact that it's integrated with everything else is a big plus. Is it perfect...no. But what is?

My dealer took my bike in and managed to reproduce the issue I was seeing when riding in the rain, ie screen playing up and flicking from one screen to another by putting a hose pipe on the screen.
They then run some tests and could not find a reason for the strange actions on screen, then they dried the screen and cleaned it with alcohol to remove any contaminates from the screen and tried the hose pipe trick again..... the screen did not falter!
It seems there was fingerprints on my screen and when the rain hit it it activated like I was touching it. I couldn't believe it when they told me.
I have always kept my screen clean but obviously not clean enough, anyway now I pay particular attention to it and I have had no problems since..
