Hey all,
Got a 99 ultra fuel injected the other day and after replacing the fuel pump and crank sensor got it to fir up after sitting a year plus. Crank and ran several times but now when I turn the ignition on the fuel pump doesnt prime nor does the engine light flash or come on. Turned the ignition switch on just a while ago and pump came on eng light came on then I heard the relay click off. Turned the ignition off and back no and right back to no fuel pump or eng light. Bike will crank over just never fires and Ive learned the ignition and fuel pump are all on the same circuit just dont know what to check for to isolate the cause of the lost power.
Ive changed the main circuit breaker and 2 relaysall fuses including the 2 only for the ECM are all good. It just randomly works or doesnt it seems. I cant find a actual diagram for the relays.
You report "when I turn the ignition on the fuel pump doesn’t prime nor does the engine light flash or come on."
What else did you disconnect when servicing the bike?
Some bikes have a wire that runs on top of tank but under tank console with a push like connector that many people forget to reconnect.
Runs from fuel tank access panel towards seat.
Try to rule-out key switch and run/off switch at handlebar?
With handlebar switch on RUN
Turn key switch to ON
Do you have dash lights?
With handlebar switch OFF
Turn key switch to ON
Do you have dash lights?
All connections for the fuel pump change are good. Mine had just the 2 spade connections at the canopy and the one ground on top. Bike has cranked and ran since all maintenance was done.
With run switch on all dash lights work and bike will turn over.
With run switch turned off all dash lights work but the bike will not turn over.
Randomly with no rhyme or reason I can turn the ignition on with the run switch on and the pump will prime and eng light comes on as its supposed to then I can turn it off wait a few come back no prime or eng light indicating ECM is running its test. I know the fuel pump will only prime when the pressure requires but the lack of eng light and power to the pump and coil is what has me scared to say ECM
I have a 1999 Ultra Classic and one day after stopping for lunch the bike would not restart, no electrical power whatsoever when turning the ignition on. I got home by making a couple jumper wires from the battery to the fuses for ignition and ECM. When I got home I discovered a burned terminal where the ignition switch harness hooks into the main harness behind the fairing. I used a butt connector to bypass the connection and had no problems since. I wonder if yours could be something similar where its not a total loss of power but enough of a voltage drop that the ECM wont wake up.
I could see that but Im getting a good voltage to the ignition and ECM fuse. Ive pulled both fuses and cleaned them and shot continuity and the fuses are good. Its hard for me to believe the ECM just crapped the bed randomly Im leaning more to a ground had a bad connection already and when it cranked last it vibrated to a worse connection possibly.
