I use my bike when I can. That means using my king tourpak frequently.
When I bought my 2019 FLHTP, I tried to do without a trunk. I usually ended up strapping bags to the bike. I had the "full set" detachable set (luggage racks (a couple different styles), and various backrests. Then I gave up and purchased a Harley King Tourpak.
Unless you're keeping your cycle FOREVER (which most never do) think about when you want to sell your cycle........to the next buyer it could be a deal breaker if it wasn't on the cycle.
