Sanebiker says;"Use the tools that came with your bike"

I'm still freaking out on this one. Do you mean to tell me that HD gives you a tool kit on newer bikes? I thought only Honda did that. My wifes Honda Shadow can be rebuilt from the ground up with the tools that came with her bike.
Yeah, the Ultra comes with a toolkit. I imagine the other baggers do, too. What I don't like are the combo wrenches, which are basically a flat piece of chromed steel with notches all the way around corresponding to wrench sizes. It's easy enough to use the notches on the ends, but if you have to use something on the long side of them, they kind of lose their usefulness. What got me was that there were both SAE and metric on there. Dunno yet what metric bolts are for on the hawg, but I imagine I'll stumble across them over time. Maybe they're there to assist metric bikers who are broken down along the road.

Since this is my first hawg, I'll have to start building up my SAE tool set, since everything I have up until now is metric. I have a socket set and they clip nicely together, not taking up much room in the saddle bag. I'll get box ends as I need them. I don't want to carry something I don't really need. When I went looking for a wrench kit, they were all quite large and I could tell that about half the wrenches in there couldn't be used on the bike anyway.

Interesting to hear about your wife's Honda. My old GL1000, and the older CB360 that preceded it had rudimentary tools. I ended up loading up the GL with quite an array of stuff - filled one side of a Windjammer fairing with them.

yeah having all the tools you could possibly need or use is nice.
But having the intelligence to know HOW to use them is something else.
And poor work conditions in you parking stall is NO excuse.
As I said earlier give the tools to your wife, be extra nice to her and ask her to do it for you as you obviously are incompetent in this field of mechanics.

I got to stop listening to this devil in my head!!!!lol!!!!!
