Default Looking for a new bike. Help me decide.

Hey guys. I am looking for a new (to me) bike.
I am looking for a bagger. Electra Glide or Ultra Classic?
Looking at a 2014 right now with 40K miles I believe for $12K.
What do you guys think of the 2014s??
Trying to stick to the $15K or below.
I do ride a 2008 Road King Classic and do most of my maintenance.
I am in East SoCal if anyone knows of a good deal in that area.

Why are you looking for a new bike? High miles on current ride? Does it need work? You want navigation?

My Bike now has 117,000, but still runs good. Going to keep it. Does need some work, normal wear and tear for a 15 year bike which I will be doing this winter.
Just want more of a bigger touring for longer distances. Nav and radio is nice to have of course.

I had a 2014 Ultra Limited. It was the best bike I ever owned.

I have never seen any onboard navigation sustem worth the money. Map upgrades are expensive and not easily applied.

Radios/music can be nice for longer trips. But I like my FLHTP without a radio.

2014 were the first year of the CAN wiring. Make sure everything that is supposed to work, works as designed.

Other than that, go over the used bike as usual and good luck shopping!

When I was deciding what bagger to buy back in 14 I rented a 2014 Ultra Limited and rode it to Sturges. I believe it was the first year water cooled head. I really like it except for the Bat Wing fairing. It was too heavy on the forks and it felt too close. I ended up buying a 2015 Road Glide without the water cooled head and immediately regretted it. That 103 ran so hot it fried my legs. I spent a small fortune trying to get that POS to run cooler and gave up. I traded it for a 2020 Road Glide Limited with the wet head and I love it. So I guess my advice to you is stay away from the oil cooled 103 no matter what.

I have the 2014 Limited and it's a great bike. If it is Limited, the water pump will need to be updated to the newer design used on the M8 bikes if it hasn't already - at 40k miles it likely has. The new pump motor is bright aluminum, where the old one was black in color under the plastic cover just behind the front tire and below the voltage rectifier.
Other than a few radio glitches that are generally resolved with a reboot, all variations of the 2014 are solid bikes - I dare say the best Twin Cam based bikes ever are from 2014-2016.

San Diego Harley has a 2022 Road King standard for sale with 3200 miles asking $18,500 in vivid black. I'm sure they will negotiate more. The 2014 is a great bike with the Rushmore upgrades but 40K is a lot of miles. You are close to a 50K major service. You should be able to find up to a 2015 with less than 24K miles for under $15,000. I would keep looking and make sure the seller has all the records on the services.

I just recently (April) picked up a 2014 Ultra Limited. Absolutely love it. I paid $14,000 with 20,300 miles, brand new tires, brake pads, 3 hole oil change & filter, came with stock and Corbin dual heated seat, Cobra slip-ons and just had the water pump upgraded to the newer one.

Thanks guys. Will keep looking, but I guess it seems 2014 and newer is good to go.
