I used to follow some folks, with amusement, as they purchased a used stock motorcycle, put $10,000+ of modifications into it, then claim it is not reliable to tour on. Then they sell that bike and buy another to start modifications all over again.
While the folks I know that put 150k + miles on their bikes are riding mostly stock bikes, and have very few issues.
I bought my 2019 FLHTP because it had everything I desired, and nothing I did not.
I bought an unmolested '06 Road Glide last month. Currently replacing the stock cam chain tensioners with hydraulic. The new stuff doesn't float my boat anymore. That's where I am this point in my life. The "sophistication" of the Pan America I had, left me stranded more times than any other bike ever has. I want to be able to work on a bike myself. The last 3 decades, I've bought new. Traded a 2020 Electra Glide Standard for the Pan Am. Big mistake for me. But to tell you the truth, I am just as excited to start riding this "obsolete" bike as I've been with any brand new one.
Well I've had several modern roadglides, hevaily modified Dyna's, a couple of EVO's and shovels and still have a shovel FLH with handshifter and footclutch and a '77 FXE with a TP-engine.
The bikr I miss the most though is my '94 Electra Glide Ultra cCassic which I rode daily to work, the shops and holidays, so the electra standard I think will suit me just fine.
The thing I didn't like about the ultra was the tourpack anyway, so I won't miss it on the standard.
Will take pics after I take delivery!
I know of the camchsintensioner problems, but I don't know how hard it is change them for hydraulics?
If u do switch the cam plate you have to plug one oil hole. Its the only twin cam that doesn't have a port going to that hole in the cam plate
many say the cyco tensioner's are a good replacement.

there are a lot of options on how to handle the tensioners. Ask the seller what they know about the tensioners. Maybe they have been addressed.
