Some excellent advice there, thanks!

With the recurve screen I guess you mean a screen where the top edge curves so the airstream is led up and over your head?

It does have the extra wings on the fairing that you can actually open up as well, dogdish I'm not sure, will check!

Correct.

There are several different flavors. The popular, but differing styles would be Klockwerks

and Freedom Shields.

Find a KlockWerks dealer near you, they have a try before you buy offer. That way you can determine what height will work best for you.

Also when riding cross your left arm across your chest, move your arm up and down then in and out from your chest and you'll find where the buffeting is coming from.

Twelve inch Windvest for me. Hits right at the nose. Perfect for long rides.

working afternoon shift I always get the tallest windscren I can find to keep the bugs off me on the ride home, currently running a slip streamer that I look threw. The only time I regret it is if it foggs up on me in when getting out of work at 2:00am, but then I just wipe it off and ride on ...

After going through a couple of Amazon wannabes, I settled on a Freedom shield and haven't looked back. When I got mine, they had an eBay blemish site that they sell for a good discount. My blem was a small smudge near the bottom of the shield that didn't affect me at all, so it was a good buy for me. They also have a great return policy where you can try out the shield and if it doesn't work for you, you can return it for another size/style as long as you don't take the protective plastic off.

From Freedom shields.

Choosing a Size

Looking Over the Windshield

The ideal height is where the top edge of the windshield is level with the tip of your nose. This gives you about 2” to see over the top of the windshield when you are looking straight ahead. With this height, the wind will clear the top of your head for a comfortable and quiet ride. The taller you go the better it feels, especially for the passenger, as long as the top edge doesn’t creep up into your line of sight.

Looking Through the Windshield

The ideal height is where the top edge of the windshield is about 2″ above your line of sight. This gives the most comfort and protection for both the rider and the passenger, but when it rains and the windshield gets wet and dirty it gets harder to see through the windshield.

Measuring Tips

– If you have a tall windshield on your bike, you can place a piece of Blue Painters Masking Tape on your windshield with the top edge of the tape at different heights and take a short ride to get settled into your normal riding position.

– If you have a short windshield on your bike, you can tape different size pieces of cardboard on your windshield with Blue Painters Masking Tape and take a slow ride to get settled into your normal riding position.

I’m 6’2”. I have a 12” windshield. I still get some buffetting but not enough to make my windshield bigger. I definitely wouldn’t go smaller.

The seat has a huge impact on the wind too. The seat can move you forward or back and up and down. My seat moved me back, so a 9" shield for me at 6'0" is great, and it looks sexy. The recurve at the top make a huge difference too.

I have found with thick, tall touring seats, the wind gets me more and I needed a taller shield to compensate. Also, the wind hitting you in the face can be uncomfortable, but going straight over your head can cause a negative pressure and that tends to hurt my back without a backrest. So, the recurve and the wind hitting just the top of my head so it flows over has been the best I have found.

A lot of dealers are KlockWerks dealers and you can try before you buy. Definitely worth a ride to a local dealer that has them in stock for trial.

I have a Klockwerks 10" Pro Tour on my RG. It's about 2 inches shorter than it should be. I'm 6'3". I wear a full face, the buffeting is minimal. Get a Fullface.
