Default Batwing windscreen

Right then, I've got a 1999 electra with the batwing fairing and a very low windscreen. I'd say at a guess 4.5 inches.

I'm 6,4" and I'm right in the turbulent air with my head whilst riding.
When I sorts duck down, and wind my neck in, all is quiet behind the screen, so this made me wonder if a taller screen, or even a wave/flip up screen would make things quiet when I assume my normal riding position?

I've had roadglides and electra's before, but always with the very low windscreens.

Any experiences welcome and appreciated!

I hear same comment from talker riders, on that note some will stay with shorter w/s for aesthetics (looks cooler) but for comfort you may try 8” w/s. I know others will chime in, a lot of great info here.

At 6’4” (I’m 6’3” but all waist) I would try at a very minimum a 8” recurve windshield like a Freedom Shield.

FWIW - Your windshield should be about in line with your nose. IMO too short a shield gets you hammered with wind.

Shields are like seats....the sexier they are, the more uncomfortable they are. Go bigger!

As a side note, I have one of the Baggershield two piece shields. Tinted lower with a clear upper. Clear for riding in rain and with 3-quick release ***** it drops in half for those 90F+ days.

I'm 6'2" and use a 10" windscreen and am looking over it about 2" on a stock seat and no wind buffeting. I tried the 12" and it is directly in my line of sight so it did not work.

Windscreen top breaking at the nose is supposed to be optimal ... It gives you a chance tweak your head to see above or through the windscreen

I'm a tall rider and I loved the look of the shorter shields, but the wind would hit me right in the forehead, resulting in a terribly sore neck after a ride.
I opted for the recurve-style shield and have ZERO neck pain, even after 20+ hours in the saddle.

While many will promote a particular brand of windscreen, I am more focused on the shape and function.
A $30 screen lasted me nearly 4 years and worked fine the entire time.

+1 on the recurve screens, I went with the Clearview screen 6.5" however; I am 5'9" very affordable and very clear (Hence the name) if I slouch I can look through the screen with 0 issues, and they make it for the older bikes (Mines 1988 EG), also "fangs" (loved by many, but hated for how they look) go a long way on cutting down on the buffeting.

Lots of good brands on the market. My preference has been Freedom Shields for a number of reasons:
1. Excellent quality Lexan.
2. Good return/exchange policy
3. Their shields are offered in 1" increments.
4. Offer a slight discount to Forum members (ask for it)

They also offer excellent customer service for those that want to discuss shields over the phone before you order.
(FYI...I don't work for them, I'm just a happy repeat customer.....LOL)

I agree and I've done hundreds of thousands of miles on 3 Electras over the years. If your bike doesn't have it get the dog dish wind deflector in the forks and also the adjustable wings on the fairing.
