I'd elongate the holes.

I've been watching a lot of Roadkill episodes and have learned so much about doing the wrong things the right way.

Return or pitch the cheap inner fairing. Buy an OEM one and move forward. I learned my lesson, jumping into an Advan-black hole. Thousands of dollars wasted. Thankfully you've learned this lesson for far less money. Consider yourself lucky and much less "stupid" than you were before. Make the smart choice and put this behind you.

Try The Fairing Exchange. They may have an option for the older bike.

Definition of precision: When only one of the holes is oval!

As someone had already said here, if you keep all the lower bolts loose, you can get the top ones to align easier. but even when doing that, what i did was buy one of these, since i like the look and the holes underneath can be round or oblong and noboday will see them.

In carpentry finish work, it’s called molding.
Hides a lot!

As many other have said, if you are on a budget, converting to a Road King is going to cost you 2-3x more than just fixing it properly. It's also going to make the bike dam near unsellable. Youve already admitted to being stupid........dont double down on your efforts....... Seriously, thousands of guys have gone thru this, you can fix it. It may not be as cheap as you expect, but nothing ever is.

I bought one off of ebay at the recommendation of another member here. Perfect fit. Everything lined up. No issues whatsoever. Here is the link to the seller
