Default Handlebars like a Shadow...

I really like the handlebars on my Shadow, and I'd like the Street Glide's bars to be more like those, particularly the more natural hand angle and more laid back rider position. I seem to sit nearly ramrod stright on the SG, often feeling like I'm "sitting at attention" in front of a military review panel, and while I've gone to NC and back twice, I'm not convinced it's the most comfortable position possible. I find I always want to lean back more, which pulls on my shoulders, which get sore, then I lean forward ... rinse and repeat the entire ride, every ride.

Problem is nearly everyone sells "ape hangers" or handlebars that raise one's arms higher, not put them farther back or change the hand angle away from unnaturally straight. Perhaps that's just a mounting issue ... I could simply install them rotated lower and I'll get what I want, or put in riser for some bars so I may rotate them lower without hitting the tank. I don't really know and I haven't been able to determine if that's the case, or what handlebar/accessory will do the trick.

I am not in favor of just buying something to see if it works - Handlebar Lee recommended his Cordovas after I described what I wanted. It's a significant effort to replace the bars, and I'm not wanting to do that more than once if I can avoid it. Not dinging Lee ... I may even wind up with his Cordovas in the end. I'm simply looking for the greatest chance of getting what I want on the first try, as well having a good idea of how it goes together.

This is both bikes in roughly the same position:

Thanks in advance...

The bars on your Shadow are called buckhorns. That should make your search a little easier to describe what you're looking for.

Check out BRs Custom Bars out of Fredonia NY. Myself and others in my area have ordered many sets. He will custom build the bars to your specs. Most of us have gotten them raw and then had them powder coated locally. Better quality than many big names and the pricing is good as well.

Consider adjustable bars if you want a better chance at getting fitment right.

Many Harley dealers have a "Fit Shop". There is a bike and seat mock-up on which you can try different bars and seats, might help narrow your search.

That's the answer I've been looking for as well LOL. My '82 Electraglide bars aren't quite as severe as those but they are more of a buckhorn style - and I really like them... I have for the last 40+ years. My '21 CVO Ultra Limited bars aren't bad, but they do wing outwards much more and I'm not as pleased with them as much. Now I have a better starting point. Thanks for sharing that info.
