Sorry to rant I get on here everyday and the same old things are here just posted by someone else.
I also just quit smoking after 20 years 2 weeks ago. I am a little on edge. So if this offended anybody. I apologize....LOL.
I had duns on my 05 RK...changed to Metz 880's as they have a more round profile than the duns and makes riding grooved hiways a pleasure. My buddy on new RK was all over the road that was grooved.....then rode mine and could not believe the difference. Plus, I like them better in the rain!!
METZ are the way to go! I have used Dunlops for several years and decided to see if the Metz would get rid of my high speed wobble and have a better grip in corners. I just got back from a trip to Deals Gap, ( the dragon's tail ) I could not be happier with the performace of the tires. I know that the dunlops would of not handled those curves at the speeds I was going.
If I can get 8-9k in the rear I will be happy. I know reading some of the post riders are getting a lot more, but I tend to push the envelope whenever it is safe
I am in process right now of changing from Dunlops to Metzlers. Guess I'll know in a few days what the difference is like. Sucks having the bike in the shop, tho.
An HD tech at Sturgus once told me it costs Dunlop 100dreds of thousands of $$dinero to develop a tire suited for the Harley Dresser and other vehicles. Why trust another maker with the tires. Ive only run the stock tires since the early 80's with all my HD's..
I feel there is no better tire than Dunlop. My 2 cents
I just got rid of my 98 Road Glide that had a set of Metzler 880's on it with about 7/32" tread left and the tires were incedible. I picked up my new 08 RG yesterday and obviously comes with the Dunlops. I must say, I had a much better ride on my Metzlers with miles than my new Dunlops. In the past I have also had Metzlers on my BMW and loved them.Frommy experienceI would definitely go with Metzler, but that is just my opinion. Others have theirs, just wanted to help you out. Ride Safe!!
I can't believe what I'm reading. 10, 12 even more miles on a Rear? Come on. 10 is all I got out a the rear when I lived in the flat lands. Now I live in the Smokies and I get 8,000 . doesn't matter what type I've tried most all of them. In 60,000 miles on my 02 I have never gotten more than about 8,500 mile and that was driving like a baby. Don't get me wrong, I don't abuse them I just use all of them.
