Default Anyone make their own Trask crankcase vent?

I've looked at the Trask check m8 vent and it looks good but it's very basic for the price. We'll over $500.00 up here in Canada. I did see a video on YouTube of a guy made his own. I thought about that the second I saw the Trask one. For a small filter, some hose, a couple hose barbs and a check valve it coukd be easy and cheap.

Has anyone done this with success?

You could probably use something like this for a check valve. Folks use them on Yamaha XS bikes and Nortons. I'd be hesitant to use a ball check valve as the ball could bounce off the seat from vibration, etc.

Be careful with those check valves/PCV valves as most are vehicle specific, I put one on my Sportster, and it blew the oil tank cap off.

Yes. Use the reed valve linked in #2 above. I bought another metal trans cover and drilled it for the hose fitting. The reed valve is tucked up under the seat and wrapped in thick vinyl (old remnants from an above ground swimming pool), protects adjacent wiring. I ended up running a hose to the rear of the bike, too much oil misting had to add a catch can. My 2018 has the stock unsealed oil pump which I’m upgrading soon to the revised pump with sealed plate to cut down on the vent mist.

I opted for the Feuling dipstick 5 years ago on my 2018 Ultra Classic and it's been working great. Still using it.

IMO - look for sales on Trask parts...don't jeopardize your $pendy motor w/ MacGyver homemade attempts you see online.

Why do you think you need a vent?

Just based on the parts available and the issue with blow by and excessive crankcase pressure on these M8's.
