Default Another Tach Question

Ok read through some of the past tach installation threads. Have a pretty good idea what i am up against.

I have a 2006 Road King Clasic. I am installing the small Harley tach up on the cover on the handle bars.

I have my shop manual and wiring schematic and know that the tach pick up signal is the pink wire or pin 3 in the ECM connection.

My question is what is the general path to get the new tachs wiring harness back behind that cover where the ecm is located? Do i remove the entire tank? Just the tank panel housing the speedo etc? Remove seat?

Thanks in advance.

Seat off, disconnect battery (neg. 1st). You may be able to run the wire under the tank by loosening the front tank bolts (dash should come off), removing rear tank bolt and prop tank up so you can fish a wire under it adjacent to the others that run there. You don't want your wire to be in a position for the insulation to be rubbed through.
A lot of folks do run wires under the dash to eliminate the hassle with the tank. Just be sure to fasten it with zip ties so it won't rub.
You will enjoy having a tach.

There's a plug that it will plug into under the dash near the speedo hook up under the dash on my bike.... I would guess harley probably uses the same wiring harness for the most part... I put a tach/ speedo combo on mine and it had two plugs... one for the speedo and one for the tach... it was plug and play... GOOD LUCK DUDE !!!!

Thanks fellas. Ill start and look for the dedicated tach pickup plug at or near the existing speedo and use that, otherwise ill continue all the way back to the ecm under the seat.

You'll have to remove the tank.

You may also have to make a slight modification to the plastic wiring housing. I did it over a year ago on my '06 RK and it took a little while as the instructions aren't always that clear . . .
