I just purchased a 2005 FLHTCI Electra Glide. From everything Ive read doing my research, the bike is supposed to have a 5 speed transmission. After riding up and down the freeway day before yesterday, i discovered mine is a six speed transmission. Did I miss something during my research, were there two different transmissions? Or did I get lucky and get one with a tranny upgrade?
Look bike over good. Clearly the transmission was swapped out of a 6 speed gear set installed. 2007 was when six speed became standard.
You may want to look at engine serial numbers and VIN see if they are compatible . It was not uncommon to pick up a salvage engine and transmission and swap them.
Look over the work and see if it looks like a well do job.
I tell all new members the following. Please do get your factory service manual!! It will be one of the most helpful tools in your tool box!! Also consider having a spiral binder installed, or have hole punched for a 3 ring binder. And keep good notes in a 3 ring binder of what you do, repairs, mods, accessories, etc.
Welcome from Spartan Country, Michigan! I tell a lot of new comers to the forum to get: Factory Service manual and the Parts manual. Take to an office supply store and have them put a spiral binder in place of the glued binder. That will let the manuals lay flat on your bench. Get a three ring binder and record all your maintenance, repairs, accessories, etc. This will be a great reminder of what was done when. And great material to pass along to the new owner should you sell and upgrade. Also know how large your fuel tank is, a rough idea of your range per tank, and record your fuel usage. I have an app called Simply Auto that I record all my fuel used. I use the odometer and use the fuel gage as reference only. I reset the odometer to zero on fill ups, and I know I can safely get 200 miles on a tank on around town riding, and upwards of 230+ on trips.
Dont know about the ability to switch in a Harley 6- speed, but Baker made on, so Id suspect thats what you have.
For what it's worth, the 2007 Screamin' Eagle Parts catalog showed a Six Speed Transmission and Gear set that was reverse compatible on '02-'06 Touring models.
