If you have floating rotors, they move by design.

It sounds like the rotor is solidly bolted to the wheel hub,,,right?? The movement is at the buttons. They can wear out, but your bike is not that old.

If the buttons are loose, you would need to replace the entire rotor on most bikes. You would need to check the service manual and parts list for your bike to see if you can replace the buttons only.

Hope this helps,
Tom

I found one video where dude replaced buttons only I am just curious if I can do it while rotor is on the bike. I can think of the reason what this wouldn't be possible but what do I know.

Here you go:

Ref: 26

41500020
BOLT,FRT ROTOR
Price: $3.63

Ref: 24
41500018
BUSHING,FRT ROTOR | front rotor
Price: $1.10

Ref: 25
41500019
SPRING,FRT ROTOR | front rotor
Price: $0.83

My 2019 FLHTCUTG has made that noise since new, know it is the rotor. It is not going anywhere and I have 30,000 miles on it. If one of the bushings or the rotor looks to be damaged, I will replace them.

Big thanks man I am leaving to dealer soon. Did you replaced yours with wheels on the bike?

Have not done anything with mine as I have a slightly different setup. Mine are floating and have rivets holding the rotor inner part to the outer part.

I guess I could compress the rivets a bit but it is not hurting anything the way it is.

See diagram & picture below.

Sadly replacing hardware didn't helped so bike will have to go to dealer for warranty job. Seems like rotor is put of specs and “loose”. Sucks as I always get anxiety to give my bike to anyone ☹️

I’ve had a clunk like you described on every touring bike I’ve owned and it’s never led to anything even after 80,000+ miles

50 Cents says it's the tank bolts. You can't physically grab onto the tank with your hands and shake it to re-create the clunk. Just tighten those bolts just a small fraction and watch the clunk disappear. This has been an ongoing issue from the factory for years. Never causes a real safety issue, just worries all the new owners who aren't used to it at first!
