Default Derby Cover gasket

Derby Cover Frisbee gasket or regular round gasket? Bought a gasket set from Dennis Kirk and after taking primary cover off I noticed I still had a frisbee style OEM Gasket installed. Question is any issue with just a regular gasket replacing this OEM Harley style? I have it all back together with what I ordered but curious what purpose that OEM style gasket serves?

OEM gasket is reusable and easy to install. Not sure what you got in the kit, but the old style O Ring was a PITA.

I got a normal gasket, not the O ring thing, looks like the frisbee style without he center section. Kinda curious why the center needs to be solid.
I got this.

The rubber o ring from HD works well, and if it was still working, I wouldn't have replaced it. I have not used that gasket you got. I like the rubber/silicon gasket. They have always been trouble free. The paper gaskets work by crushing, and when you open it again, you'll need to replace it.

He has an ‘05 Road King.

OP, I suggest putting your bike info in your signature so people know what bike you’re asking questions about.

Anyhow, that's my old fart theory.

I'm curious, my '14 has a rubber o-ring and I love it. I've reused it at LEAST 6 times and not a drop of oil leaking.

I always assumed it was so that there was only one side that could potentially leak instead of two.
