It's difficult to keep them in place, they squeeze out when tightening the mounting bolt. I tried glue and it still squeezed out. The business cards worked well, I glued them together and as I tightened the mounting bolt they conformed to the surface. They really squished down quite a bit. They are tight, I couldn't pull them out.

We'll check back with you this time next year on how those cards are doing.

I might have snipped a small piece of aluminum and filed to square up that area.

Maybe it’s the little peg on the bracket not completely seating in the hole on the frame??

Maybe, but those cards are squished down tight. They might deteriorate but they are very dense at the moment with 30 ft.lb. of torque on them. Time will tell, so what if they do deteriorate, no harm done or expense involved. And I can always choose another option later if I want.

These brackets don't have the peg, they have a slot and slide up and down for adjustment. It's the mounting base on the frame that is off.

My money’s on the OPs solution. I bet they will survive for many years and bucket washes.
Might need to touch up the black paint occasionally.

What is with the copper washer?
Also why not go to a machine shop and have them mill 40 thou off one side of the bracket tapered to 0 on the other side.
I would not grind on the frame.

While mocking up the bracket and trying various solutions the bolt and lock washer would gring into the powder coating, just grinding it away basically. So I had those washers laying around and fit well, I didn't have any stainless steel washers that would fit. So I threw the copper washers behind the lock washer just to keep from grinding away the powder coating, assuming the possibility of maybe doing this again in the future. A machine shop to shape the bracket is a good idea, I just don't know of any in my area. That is something to consider for the future if I learn of one
