I have a 07 Ultra and took the bags off to do a wash and good cleaning I have only 2500 miles. The bags have rubbed the side covers on both sides removing the paint on the covers and the bags.Would this be covered under thewarranty? I sure paid enough in set up fees. Has anyone else had this problem?
I keep seeing this come up. I'm not having any issues myself, but I'm kind of curious as to where exactly the bags are being rubbed. Anyone have pics of this phenomenon?
thanks to this forum checktem after 1k and shure enough.... took two minutes to adjust those thingeys that the quick release goes in. damage was miner and out of site.
Not covered under warranty unless you can prove without a doubt that it was improper set-up. Did you install anything that required removing the saddle bag brackets like docking hardware??? If so there is a good possibility that you didn't line them up right. Take it to the dealer and see what they say.
dix: This happened on my Street Glide but never took a pic. Basically the front inside corner of the bags rub the side covers. I am sure it was my fault because I had the brackets off several times to do various installs and didn't think to line them up. But since the SM couldn't prove either way he took it upon himself to get my cover repainted by a local painter that they use. Matched perfectly.
FYI: The best way to reinstall the bags is to loosen up the brackets, set the bag on the support bar as far back as it will go without the bottom channel of the bag coming off the support bar. Install the pins through the brackets and then tighten the bracket bolts.

For the love of god, please do not ever, under any circumstance, ask for someone here to post pictures of their 'bag rub'.
I imagine it could get ugly.
But, seriously:
The saddle bags usually rub the side covers at the upper front corner of the bag. Next time you remove either of your saddle bags, take a look at the side cover and you'll see a protective plastic film on the side cover to prevent paint damage if the bag happens to rub. The fix is simple: you just adjust the saddle bag brackets to move the bags back a bit.
