Both of my Harleys have been Road Kings. The ignition switch on those is easy to take apart and clean the contacts, don't know if an Ultra has a similar switch or not.

I had a similar issue with my Road King and first it was a bad battery, then after replacing the connection was loose. It isn’t hard to run through the tests for the stator and voltage regulator on it to rule them out. Just pull the oil cooler loose, no need to disconnect the lines and you’ll have access to the connector.

Me too. But his flashers worked. Which maybe loose connections could still have enough contact for. I would say he would have to tighten before he could start again.

Tighten battery cables is always free and easy. Myself I have only done the cables on the battery themself. But when desperate check more.

With new bikes and BCMs Not sure. Could look at wiring diagram and see if they are on a different fuse or connector than the rest.

Had an issue today with my 2011 FLHTK shutting off while going down the road, This has never hapend before and I am wanting to know where to start looking to find the cause of this problem.

Here is what happened :

I have been riding bike into work as usual with no issues, but the last couple of days we have seen temps in the mid 90's. Today after sitting in the sun for about 8 hrs. I got about 10 miles down the road and the bike just shut off , I was running 60 MPH in 6th gear with the cruise control on like I normally do and just lost power to the bike. Radio , cruise control light, 6th gear lite, all dead with motor not running. I put it in neutral but no "N" indicator lite came on. It did let me put the flashers on and I costed to a safe place to pull over. I then turned the ignition switch off and just sat there for 5 minutes . when I turned the ignition switch back on everything powered up as normal and the bike started as usual. I adjusted the vents on the faring to get air flow over the engine and ran the bike as normal for 20 miles till I hit my driveway.

and Ideas of what might have happend and where to look ? The bike is a 2011 Ultra Classic with the 103 and 65k miles.

Many Thanks,
Since the bike lost ALL electrical power but emergency flashers operated and later the bike started then I would think electrical.
My first thought would be to check all 4 FOUR ends of battery cables. The two ends at battery and the other ends too.
Then I would run some home tests on battery with a digital voltage meter.
Measure voltage at battery terminal: at rest, cranking and high idle.
How old is the battery?

I guess intermediate short circuit somewhere can cause similar issues

I had a quick look at the bike today after having it on the battery charger for the past 24 hrs :

I Checked the battery connections and they are clean and tight at the battery, I have not had time to check the ground connections at the frame or the condition of the cables themself. I could not find a date on the battery itself but records indicate it was replaced in 2018, I have not had any other issues with it but not sure how a 6 yr old battery would fair in 90+ degree heat. I have not taken the battery in for a load test but it does crank the motor over well. the gage on the dash usually reads 14.v when running and a seperate one I have that plugs into the power port reads 13.2 I got my meter at the other garage so I could not get a direct reading at the battery yet.

Can you turn flashers on with ignition off?
I can not turn the flashers on with the ignition switch turned off.

what he^ said...start the bike and wiggle the wires at the at the connector by the air cleaner to see if it stumbles.
Behind the air cleaner on my bike there are two pigtail connectors, one with two black wires and one with a tan and purple wires. I wiggled them both but it did not make the bike cut out. Are these the wires you are talking about or should I look for more ?

Both of my Harleys have been Road Kings. The ignition switch on those is easy to take apart and clean the contacts, don't know if an Ultra has a similar switch or not.
They are a diffrent switch, but that being said I have seen a video from tube-u that shows how to take mine apart. I am sure I can handle it if it comes to that but I am not sure if I can get just the electrical part of the switch, or if I would need to get the whole thing and end up with a different key ?

Is he **** part of the switch, thought there was a rod that connected the **** to the switch, or does that go to the fork lock?

FWIW... If it comes to it...

I changed out the ignition switch on my '16 bagger. It uses different parts, but they look a lot like this parts diagram for your 2011 FLHTK. I was able to replace the ignition switch (#16) and keep the old ignition switch **** (#15), which requires the key. So I kept my original key. But if you needed the switch **** too, they can key it to your old key with your current key code.
