Bud picked up a used 2020 RG special, he's found the saddlebag locks won't take the ignition key. Any way to ID the lock key number, or is this bite the bullet and get new locks time?
@TwiZted Biker Last year on a road trip I lost my key. I ended up at a bicycle shop that was able to use a tool to figure out the barrel lock and cut me 2 new keys for $20. Before he springs for a lock set I'd suggest he try the same.

A dealer can use the VIN and order keys if the bags are original and the ignition lock was changed I think.
The key code may also be on the lock or lock tumbler itself on the inside if you remove the saddlebag latch.

His iggy key works the bike, not the bags. Make me suspect they have been changed at some point and the bike probably got some history, explains the consignment sale deal where he found it. We got zero background on.
Explain the key code bit, there is something on each lid looks legit.
If you slide the plastic part of the ignition key off, there should be a code under it. You should look for something similar on the bag locks.
If the ignition (and key) was changed then the key for the ignition would not match the bags if they are original to the bike and the purchased ignition was not matched to the bike.
Code looks like this, will be a different number though and I think one is stamped on the bag locks. I'm not going to pull my trike locks out to check though - lol
Found that, matches the ignition & lock. Don't think it's been swapped. I'll talk him into pulling them for a key shop or a new set off Amazon and he deals with 2 having 2 keys. Get the fancy red plastic cover.
Another M8 question and you are who I thought of, opening the derby to look at maybe adjusting the clutch, clanks hard going into gear and usual neutral hunt. Friction zone isn't something I can change with the hyd. clutch I don't think. Pardon my asking till mine I haven't touched one newer than a mid 90's evo. I have zero issue asking those who know these things.
2020, 2022, and 2024 M-8 touring have all clanked hard going into first, unless you hold the clutch for a long pause, then it slips into first like butter.
One was hydraulic clutch, the other two cable. All three grabby and notchy, regardless of how adjusted. Muller Hydro clutch slave improved the hydraulic clutch on the 2020

Another thought would be to get new bag locks keyed to the IGN. This way he gets 2 spare keys for the IGN. I don't like carrying a bunch of keys in my pocket, especially the barrel keys.
I upgraded to the newer bags on my '13 King and got new locks. I also have the TP and lower fairing door locks keyed to my bike. Now I have 7 spare keys for the ignition.
