As for my apes, I just got my handlebar weights in the mail today and will eagerly await next riding season to try them out. I need all the help I can get with my old damaged hands from decades of chainsaw vibration. I'll check in next spring and share my findings.
Hey guys, it's been nearly a year since I last visited this thread and I have a couple things to share with you about the handlebar weights. First of all I'd like to say "Handlebar weights really do reduce vibration at the grips", I'm impressed. As for the weights I bought (I posted a pic) that cost me over a hundred quid and six weeks delivery time from Europe, the guy that designed them failed miserably. Looking at the pics I had to go on, I imagined that both ends of these brass weights were removable and meant to compress the o-rings when torqued down squeezing them to a greater outside diameter and this would cause them to bind securely in the handlebar, this was not the case. First of all, only one end is removable and when it's tightened down the ring groove is too big and it does NOT compress the o-ring and bind the weight in place. And the other end simply has a fixed o-ring groove that (again) does not aid in tightening the weight in place. There was a slight interference fit when slid into the handlebars that (I guess) is supposed to keep them secure. Why the one removable end? I have no idea. When these were slipped into the handlebars they were so loosely fit that I couldn't even get a few inch pounds of torque on the allan bolt that holds the one removable end and they just spun inside the handlebars. Weights work but this design is a total fail, so I went to work and designed my own. Here's a pic and I'll share details with anyone who would like to make (or have made) a pair of these. If you have issues with vibration on your hands, these things really help.
