I traded in my '06 Ultra for this new ride and am very impressed so far. The bike sits a little higher than my '06 based on a seat of the pants feel plus the fact that the dual antennas hit the top of my garage door now. I added a non-adjustable riders backrest since this picture was taken. I only have a few hundred miles on the bike so it is just getting broken in but even then, it is very smooth with NO noise at all from the transmission! I can't even hear any whine in fifth gear. The gear shifting is very smooth and positive. I did get to test ride two different bikes of this model so I guess I picked wisely as the old guy in the Indiana Jones movie said.
Yes, there ismore heat than my '06 but the older bike had a stage 2 95" biuld and a PCIII on it. I am waiting for the new SERT or PCIII to come out and willadd with a better AC as a first move. The bike just purrs along at 2000 rpm on flat ground in any gear though I don't stay there long because of the break-in period.Overall, this is one fine scooter and well worth the extra dollars.
Finally a picture of the 2 tone.I am hoping mine is shipped this week and this is the first good pic have seen of it.I think I am in love.It looks fantastic.Congrats on a great looking bike from a fellow Tennesseean
Congratulations on your new ride. I pickup my Vivid Black 08 Ultra with ABS on Friday and echo your write up. So far I only have 150 miles on it, but it is very smooth without any noise or vibration when rolling. It is definitely hotter than my 06 Road King, but I knew it would be from all the 07 write-ups on the board. I have a SERT, Stage I, V&H True Duals, V&H Ovals, and oil cooler on order. Hopefully with these additions and a dyno tune should eliminate a lot of the excessive heat. Since the recommend break-in on the brakes is 300 miles I have not really gotten down on them, but so far they feel about the same as the did on my RKC. Well, it is time to get ready for a HOG ride so I need to cut this short.
Congratulations! New bike day is special.I have a Standard is due in this week.
Besides maybe feeling higher does the reach feel any different to you? How do you like the stock mufflers? What others are you looking at? I think I will run mine stock until my 1000 mile check up.
Chuck1, the reach seems a little closer to the front of the new bike than on my '06. I noticed that I overshot the rear brake pedal the first time or two I applied the brakes. I sense that the new seat is thicker andmight push the rider a little more toward the front than my '06 stock seat. I had more difficulty getting the backrest to seat properly when inserted into the seat slit because of the new seat's thinkness. The backrest does allow me to lean back a little now howeverso I feel comfortable sitting and now don't notice any difference from my old bike. I am 6'2" with a 33" inseam as a reference point.
I like it quiet in the muffler dept. since I blew my ears out 45 years ago shooting pistols without ear protection. The stock mufflers are slightly louder than the stock '06 mufflers but just fine at all speeds with no increased bark at 3000 rpm like some other mufflers I have tried. I tried some street legal/street performance on pieceSE mufflers (80491-07) on my '06 which I still have so I may try them later. They
are louder/deeper sounding than stock but not offensive. The '06 did dyno out better with the 80491-07 mufflers.
Congrats on the new bike! I saw that color yesterday at one of the dealers and it is stunning.
I have not noticed mine being hotter than my 06 Deluxe and just a slight difference in sound in 5th gear (more at lower RPMs). I like the sound of the stock mufflers over the V&H I had on the Deluxe - especially now that I have the stereo. I will do some sort of "Stage", just not sure what I want to do yet.
