Default Cam Position Sensor - 2000 Ultra

Has anyone diagnosed/replaced their cam position sensor on a 2000 ultra? Any tips or advice? I got a check engine code 42 - cam position sensor. So, I will probably end up replacing it but I want to diagnose with a multi-meter first.

Also, I searched online and could not find any aftermarket for the cam position sensor. All I could find was the crank position sensor. Is there some back story on that or do I just need to learn how to search the internet better. Harley wants $90 for the cam sensor. Amazon has aftermarket crank sensors for $22 and Harley wants $60 for the crank sensor. Big difference b/t OEM and aftermarket.

IMHO, I would get the OEM sensor if it is available. It's lasted 24 years, that's pretty good service.

I know Drag Specialties makes (or did make) an aftermarket cam position sensor. I found one for sale at Parts Giant that says "in stock".

If you go aftermarket, just make sure to double check the part number/fitment...

Maybe there is an error in the drag specialties link but it says crank sensor not cam sensor.

Thanks for the correction, the mistake was all mine, not theirs....

I searched for cam sensor and that crank sensor ad snuck into the search.....

I was just too stupid to notice.....

You can't go wrong getting the OEM sensor...
