The switch can get stuck on if the handle doesn't release all the way. Have you tried pushing lever forward . If this is the case master cylinder needs rebuilding.

Get rid of the Test Light and buy a multimeter. You Tube has videos that will help you learn about DC circuits and how to check them with a multimeter.
HD schematics are in the Service and Electrical Diagnostic manuals. They are not too hard to follow and will help you troubleshoot electrical problems, aka, making informed decisions rather than guessing.

I had the same problem with the brake light staying on. The return spring in the front master cylinder was weak. Installed a rebuild kit, Wasn't very expensive

On Amazon, pick one in the $10-20 range and it should do the basics for what you need. READ THE REVIEWS on a few of them. BTW: were talking about a Digital Volt Meter.
