Annoying, aint it!!!!
My 05 RK does the same thing even after the readjustment of the clutch. There are some good suggestions here though, which I will try in the spring. This forum is great! Thanks for asking your question. I though it might have just been me, getting used to the new bike.

One more tip, Dont try to shift into N with the heel shifter. Use your toe and lift up on the toe shifter. Making that smaller transition is easier with the toe than with the heel.
Clutch cable adjustment, primary oil level, primary chain adjustment...start with these...clutch adjustment is simple, there is a thread in the DIY section that really dumbs it down for us dummys...if the primary oil level is too high, you'll have trouble shifting/finding neutral.

I have found two ways to solve this problem.
As others have said, shift into neutral while still moving.
If you are stopped, try inching forward in first gear then shift to neutral. Works for me.
