Default 05 ULTRA

Put the bike away for winter here in Calgary Canada but plan changing fluids out in next few weeks. I went to dealer and they do not have a manual in stock for 05 ULTRA and is on back order. Can anyone take a pic of thier engine and show where each location is for draining oil, trani and primary. The manual that came with the bike not clear on each location and want to make sure I do not open something up that should stay closed. That or explain clearly which is for what. Thanks in advance.

I can't draw a picture, but maybe I can tell you where the holes are. The oil drain plug is on the transmission pan. It comes out of the front of the pan toward the engine. It should take a 5/8" socket. This plug will also take a 1/4" allen wrench in the middle, but I don't recommend using one. The transmission drain plug is in the bottom of the transmission pan, and it looks just like the oil plug, except it is pointed down toward the ground.

The primary drain plug is at the bottom of the outer primary case just below where the derby cover goes on. It will be a torx head plug. The bolts for the primary are allen head, so if you take out the torx you will be right.

Make sure that you loosen the filler caps for the oil and trans. when you drain so they will drain completely. It is also a good idea to have the bike warmed up good so the oil and any condensate will drain completely. I usually ride for 5 miles or so before I change fluids.

When you get ready to put the primary oil back in, make sure you have the bike level, or the 32 oz. of primary fluid will not fit. You have to put the oil in and put the derby crover back on with the bike upright.

Hope this answered you questions. Feel free to ask more if you run into trouble. If you still need a picture, I will get you one if I can get the camera to work under there and still be in focus.

Regards,

Bill

Yota,
The primary drain plug is probably a 27 torx not a 25. You'll need to buy one as they usually don't come with sets. Also when you reinstall the primary plug, it is tapered so don't over tighten.
Check the do it yourself forums and you should find pictures and direction for what you are looking for.
