Baggers....how many tools do you carry with you at all times. I know the harley has a kit, but I was wondering does anyone carry more special tools?
ie....my slipon had slipped off about an inch, but luckly I was close to home when I noticed it. If you're out on the road and something goes wrong is the harley kit enough?????
I put together my own tool kit many years ago in a nice roll-up & it always in the saddlebag...
(HD's just sits in my tool box in the garage)
As far is the HD tool kit enough... ??? I would say NO.... But then again HD's don't break down... Do they???
I carry the "Cycle Tools" kit from Eastern Performance, one of the forum sponsors. I used it yesterday, not on my bike, but a friends chopper. We had stopped for a refreshment or two, when we went to leave he dropped the key down in the frame of the bike. It took the flashlight in the kit to find where the key was hiding. While I had it out I tightened a peg on my bike that was coming loose.
I think that's where the kit is useful. When you find a fastener coming loose, you can snug it up before it vibrates loose and is gone...
You can never have enough tools, it's always the tool you left behind you need!!
HD's tool kit with a few additions has always been good for me. The "Cycle Tools" kit as previously mentioned
is likely better. Room and weight are another item to consider
Harley staock kit with a few cable straps, 10 mm wrench and a pair of decent pliars. Also have low pressure air pump. Hog card and emergency road service.
I've used the H-D kit twice so far. Neither time for my bike and get this, it was for a Honda that needed a 10mm wrench. I jokingly said I had a tool kit pulled it open and found.....a 10mm wrench
It does not matter how many tools you take with you. The one you need will ALWAYS be at home. I have learned every time you do a mod to the bike take all the tools with you that you did the mod with. *I am speaking of bars and more simple things, not stage 2 stuff, etc* flash light and zip ties are a must. I know it is unacceptable to use an adjustable wrench, but they are priceless on the side of the road. I am going to get one of the canvas bags we used in the military to put my tools in as soon as I can make it by the army/navy store.
