I carry enough to do just about anything I might need to do.
Same here, I have one of those small army tool kit bags with tools, wireties, wire, nuts bolts, hose clamps, wire splices, fuses, air pump, patch kit, pliers, allens, torx, screw drivers. You never know...
I carry a set of sockets, end wrenches, torx set, allen wrenches, filter wrench zip ties, suspension pumpand blue loctite. All in a canvas shaving kit I found at Army/Navy surplus. If I'm leaving town I throw in a cresent big enough for the rear axle nut(cuz I have not bought the Kason yet) and a break down scissors jack that fits in another Army/Navy surplus canvas shaving kit. I used to have a 12 inch long 3/8 drive click torque wrench but the head came apart and I haven't replaced it yet.
I have the Harley set, another roll up with a sae sockets and combo wrenches, ratchet, torx, 10mm combo wrench, tape, wire ties, wire nuts. fix-a-flat, a small tool box with a small hammer, extensions, long phillips and small assortment of nuts and bolts. needle nose, wire cutters and small visegrips. Harley air pump.
I carry the essential ones I use to be sure the battery terminals, drain plugs, primary inspection covers, air cleaner, axles, exhaust, seat, etc. can be tightened if needed, plus small flash light, zip ties, rags. It is amazing how much these few items begin to weigh, but are essential items....
When my 21 year old bike was newer, I used to just carry the HD tool kit. I have slowly added to it over the years as I've needed stuff. Five dollar socket set, adjustable wrench, decent quality combination wrench set, etc. Here's a pic of me behind the motel in Pierre, S.D. (sorry if you guys have seen it before):
I had to buy a better quality socket set, dremel tool, torque wrench (ouch), and a few otheritems.
