Depends on where I'm going, ie short trip just the HD kit and a cell phone ( friends are great). Long trip, I pull a trailer so I have a Sears tool bag and carry sockets, wrenches (both metric and standard for sockets and wrenches) allen kit, both std & met, screwdrivers, zip ties, electrical tape, fuses (both sizes) mutli meter and test light, assorted other might need items...also found some tape that tightens as you put it on, can repair a leaking radator hose...cool....you can buy a lot of the items needed at sears in the companion line, not as expensive as Craftsman, but will do in a pinch, plus if you loose one, easy to replace...
Always carry a cell phone and have some type of roadside service, either HOG, AMA or through your insurance company...
I pay the Snap-On guy to follow me whenever I'm headin' out...lol
The HD kit, the Craftsman Kit w/ zip ties, electrical tape, wire, an extendable mirror to look under & behind places....a few extra bolts, nuts, fasteners...
I carry the tool kit that came with my bike, along with a few other essentials, which all fit nicely (minus fluids) in a military tool pouch I purchased at the local Army/Navy surplus store.

Have a kit from "CruzTools". Hope I don't jack myself up.... but it's all my friends who use it. I usually check and double check my bike before a ride. Especially a 4500 to 6500 mile ride to make sure all is well with my '05 RK.
I carry the essentials that will get me home 99.9% of the time.A Cruz-Tools Econo Kit for Harley Davidson (link below), with some extras toolsthat I thought the tool kit was missing, needle nose pliers, a 3.8 ratchet and a couple sizes of 3/8 extensions . I installed an HD accessory plug (P/N 91843-970,$17.95) to run an air compressor (or anything else that runs off a cigarette liter socket, like a cell phone charger). A 12V air compressor from Pep Boys (with flashing safety light), $19.95, a new tire repair kit (both my front and rear rims are solid, so I could plug a tire to get home), a quart of oil, a cell phone and a AAA membership (for catastrophic failure).
If I had a front rim with spokes and a tube tire I would also carry a couple of small tire irons and a patch kit and a scissor jack.
I put this combination of tools together to get me home on rides within 100 miles of my home.If I were going further, I would probably throw in a scissor jack, along with afew more selected tools, wrenches, sockets, hammer, etc.
I was amazed the first time I needed to break out the HD tool kit that it didn't come with something so simple as a phillips screwdriver to take off the seat. Needless to say I threw one in the pack when I got home.
