The sound of a bike's exhaust is a very personal preference and listening to somebody's recording of a bike on your computer speakers really doesn't translate well to how it sounds in person. If at all possible, go to a local bike night and check out how the bikes sound and if you hear one you like ask what mufflers they have. Of course, the same mufflers will sound different on a bike with a highly modified motor than they will on an otherwise stock motor.
Since the OP is looking for quieter mufflers that flow ok on a mostly stock 103, I can only state what works for me on my '16 RGU 103 - stock except for HD Screaming Eagle A/C, Screaming Eagle "Street Cannons" mufflers and a V&H FP3 tuner. It's somewhat louder than stock, but not obnoxious. Just how loud it sounds depends on how hard I twist it. Not a problem If I want to leave my house at 4 AM without waking my neighbors but when I twist it hard on the open road it sounds great to me. As always, YMMV.
Deadhawg, thank you for reading my post completely and for the correct response. I ended up buying some like new stock pipes for $50 10 minutes from my house and I love the sound. I still have the loud slip ons for when I get tired of the quietness.
I think some people read "pipes" and automatically respond with what they prefer with loud pipes. I wish folks would read through the posts entirely like you, before responding.
Thanks again!
