Default Which slip ons for 103

Hello everyone!
I bought a 2011 Ultra last year and it came with an unknown brand of slip ons and I would like quieter ones. I read on a thread here (can't find it now) that 88 and 96 slip ons did not flow enough for the 103. Is this true? I'm looking for used stock ones or quieter ones. Suggestions?
Thanks everyone! This forum is the best!

Totally subjective: Bassani DNT (Deep N Throaty) for a deep basey note. Used on fleabay between $125 and $300.

Thanks for the information. What I'm really concerned about is if the mufflers prior to the 103 will flow properly on a stock 103.

What diameter are the cores and what type are the cores (louvered or perforated)?

I have two-inch perforated cores on my 2014 103HO Stage I and they are ample. Bigger is NOT always better.

When talking about exhaust on a Harley, there are generally Three Factors that are important to riders:

Everyone's ears are different, and what people like for sound is varied.

It might be worth taking the time to listen to various bikes at rally's, bike nights, and YouTube can be helpful too.

Rather than spend $ on multiple exhausts to find what you like, the Thunder Torque Inserts may be something to consider.

Feel free to give us a call or shoot us an email with any questions or concerns.

Hi DK,
Do the Thunder Torque inserts need to be at the end of the baffle or can they be mid baffle? I ask as there is more room for the retainer nut to hide inside the can if installed in the middle of my baffle. The baffle has 3 step ups from back to front w/ the end being very close against the can.

Thanks for looking at our parts!

TTI's will function best (produce the most power increase) when withing 3" of the exit of the muffler...mine are generally 1-2" from the exit.

They also can be as close as 3/4" away from the exit end of the baffle, but, up to 3" away from the exit end of the baffle works fine also.

Being mounted mid baffle may give you the sound you want, but will not be very effective at increasing power. They way they increase power is by preventing reversion, which will increase exhaust gas velocity, which will result in a larger, more complete intake charge.

Here is a video on why they they produce more power -

The sound of a bike's exhaust is a very personal preference and listening to somebody's recording of a bike on your computer speakers really doesn't translate well to how it sounds in person. If at all possible, go to a local bike night and check out how the bikes sound and if you hear one you like ask what mufflers they have. Of course, the same mufflers will sound different on a bike with a highly modified motor than they will on an otherwise stock motor.

Since the OP is looking for quieter mufflers that flow ok on a mostly stock 103, I can only state what works for me on my '16 RGU 103 - stock except for HD Screaming Eagle A/C, Screaming Eagle "Street Cannons" mufflers and a V&H FP3 tuner. It's somewhat louder than stock, but not obnoxious. Just how loud it sounds depends on how hard I twist it. Not a problem If I want to leave my house at 4 AM without waking my neighbors but when I twist it hard on the open road it sounds great to me. As always, YMMV.
