Default Looking for starter advice 2008 ultra

2008 ultra, has the 103 upgrade but no compression releases.
My starter is getting weak and I'm planning to replace it but I'm wondering if I should go with a high torque model or OEM or an all ***** model.

I am a fan of CR's. All (and I mean ALL) of my weak starter and short battery life problems disappeared after my cam upgrade to Easy Starts.

I'd stick with OEM on the starter.....

FWIW... I had a 2016 w/ compression releases and had no starter issues..

I replaced that 103 engine (just for fun) with a 124" S&S engine. The 124" has the S&S "easy start" cams. It starts easily with the OEM starter. The bike has 47K miles. 21K miles with the 103" and the rest with the 124". OEM starter still going strong...

I do use a Yuasa GYZ32HL, 500CCA, AGM battery.

I should probably mention that she has 75K miles, 103bkit installed at 10K.

If it matters.

Sumax offers heavy duty battery cables.
or you can make your own. They do help.

What are the symptoms? When my compensator went out it seemed a lot like a week starter.

Would a starter clutch be all you need?

But since it has been 60k miles, I suppose size doesn;t matter. I went with an after market on one build, cause I wanted bigger. Not sure I really needed it. But harley starters are expensive especially if you want to increase power. But doesn't sound like power is an issue.

Never been convinced that you need bigger battery cables on such a short run. I don't it will do much for you.

When the engine is hot the starter hesitates. More in the last year than before. It starts to engage, then pauses and I have to let off and try again. It usually cranks on 2nd try but has become more frequent that it takes a 3rd attempt.
