After reading a number of posts here, I have ordered the RH TDs and a power commander for my 07 Road King Classic. At this point the bike is stock. No stage 1, stock air cleaner etc. The maps I see on the power commander website appear to be for more advanced set ups than this. Do I need to rethink my purchase?
No, I don't think you do. It might be beneficial to get a higher-flow airbox assembly but it might not. The question you have to ask yourself is at what throttle position does the stock airbox become an impediment to airflow and how much time do you expect to spend there and above?
That's not my main point, however. I merely want to sternly caution you to not run your bike with any modifications before you get the PC installed and put into service, as tempting as it might be. Then, do not re-enable your O2 sensors at any time. If you do, the stock ECU will change a fueling factor it maintains via the O2 sensors and it will rock your world. Trust me on this.
I was for a while. PCIII and K&N AC with stock pipes. Can't begin to tell you what a difference it made - in performance and heat.Fuelmoto had a MAP just for this. Best $420 I ever spent.
Later added SE slip-ons and loaded a slightly different map. Performance/heat-wise,didn't notice a lot of difference. Maybe a littlemore oomph. Not a big difference.
Not to change subject but... installing IDS tonight. Will soon be saying "best $225 I ever spent" - I hope.
just don't buy the prepackaged hd screamin eagle kit. they have changed the filter and it is now a piece of junk
Skratch,
When you say the prepackaged screamin eagle air filter is junk, how do you characterize "junk"? Really curious. Thanks.
the new filter is no longer a k&n, it is a paper filter that has been known to get holes blown in it after a couple thousand miles. you can 'build' your own screamin eagle kit for less money and still get the k&n lifetime element..... to me, thats the way to go.
you can buy the filter element (hd-0800) at your local autozone for about 45.00
Skratch,
Thanks, that sounds good. Is your wife running one of the standard maps from the power commander website, one from Jamie, or a custom? Just curious since I will be looking for a similar map soon.
