2000 Harley Davidson Road King FLHR
paint, digital tach, I know absolutely nothing about motorcycles , Im trying to sell it ASAP most likely to a Harley Davidson dealership, I sent them all the pictures and Vin etc but they want the mileage and I have no idea how to turn it on let alone start the bike if I need to and I can't find anything online about it either because the tach is digital and not analog.
Hence what stock looks like,

So on part 25/26, you flip the top cap to the right, to insert the key to unlock the ignition by turning the key to the right, them remove it so you can flip the cap back down, and turn the **** to the right to put ignition into run potion.

On your bike, with what I can guess all the stock items gone, including orginal speedo that may have hand orginal miles, all that is gone now, so will never really know what the true mileages is on the bike.
As for dealer to sell the bike, would do a hard pass on that, since with it modded so much, they are going to low ball you to start with on a buying price, and better to find someone that will pay more for the bike the way its modded now.
To add, the lock you show in the photo, is the lock the handle bars to the far right. Hence turn bars to far right, insert key and turn lock to lock, and will lock the bars to far right. The igntion switch with it key, should be under the speedo on the tank panel, but with the rest of the mods, may have been relocated to somewhere else on the bike. And gain, when speedo was changed out, started the clock of the actual miles back to zero, so if electic speeds is giving mileage, its going to be way lower than the true mileage on the bike.

The value on that bike ranges from Black Book Powersports "Average Retail" value of $3890.00 to JD Power "Good Condition" value of $5100.00, and "Fair Condition" of $2840.00.
Black Book shows a "Clean Trade" value of $2930 and an "Auction Wholesale" value of $3,015.00 .
The customization of that bike will reduce the pool of people willing to buy it versus a bike that is mostly OEM.
Most dealerships won't work on a 2000 year model anymore and an old bagger, especially a custom one, is not going to sell fast. I would be shocked if a dealer gives you more than $2500... They are just going to wholesale it.
IMHO....
You would be better off trying to find "that guy" who would love that year bike with those mods.
Get a friend who knows Harleys, make sure it runs (might need a battery, clean gas, etc), polish it up, and offer it for sale "as is" for $5,500. Take the first offer you get ....
Good luck with your sale...

Life is funny that way to greedy people,
since if a friend gave me one of his bikes as he was dying, only way is would leave my possession, if I was dying next, and to pass it onto another friend as remembrance of us as well.
Hence if the opt just wanted money, then should have asked the friend to just write him a check instead.
I figure whether the OP keeps it or sells it, is between him, his former friend, and his conscience........
We have no idea how this inheritance went down.....
We don't know if this bike was his friend's prize possession, or bane of his existence...
Was the inheritance discussed? For all we know, his friend told him to take it and sell it.
Were any promises made? Did the OP promise his friend he'd keep it and keep it running?
Was it a total surprise? If a friend left me anything without first discussing it with me, it's up to me what ultimately happens to it..
The OP doesn't even know how to turn on the ignition. I suspect his friend knew of his total lack of motorcycle knowledge. Why would he expect him to keep & maintain something he knows nothing about?
Without the above info, I will reserve judgement on the Op's actions....
FWIW....
I love my Harleys (and bikes in general). I love my close friends, several of whom also ride Harleys. However, I have friends who own Harleys I wouldn't want.... If they asked me, I would tell them. If they left me a bike by surprise, that I didn't want, I'd get the most I could selling it. Then I'd give the money to his widow... But that's just how I would handle that one scenario possible scenario...
The guys not into bikes, so I can see selling it. Wonder why they buddy even gave it to him. But like everything in this story, we know very little.
