good thing,,,, its sooo much better
Ok not to be dick or anything but ...
My 07 flht came off the production line on 7/14/06. I picked it up 8/1/06 iirc. Other than the hot motor I haven't had an issue with it yet. thats not say other were not having issues. 5th gear whines a bit but no box o rocks in the tranny or anything like that. Even when down around 2000 rpm, no noise. generally ride around 2200 to 2500 rpm. When I heard about the ids I thought I would get one but ... Why ... bike don't make any noise... so I'll wait. Probably late know but .. I wonder if the noisey bike owners know what dates thier bike came off the line. Might find a window of time that problem bikes came off the line, that would be kind of interesting.
Tbone, the IDS is the new shock absorbing rear sprocket that is now standard equipment on '08's, to fix driveline shock that showed up on the '07's with the six speed tranny.
It's a compensator for the driveline that's positioned at the rear wheel. It consists of interlocking hubs that have rubber isolators positioned between the segments of the two hubs and it thereby absorbs / softens shock loads such as those produced by each and every power pulse from the engine which merely pass through the entire driveline, not being augmented by it in any way. The new (last year to the touring line) 6-speed tranny is a good and sound design in and of itself. It was just an unfortunate combination of factors which produced, to some, an undesirable level of noise. Among all the things the IDS does, it eliminates that noise.
I like it, but...My 07 SG has no slack between gear shifts. But when I hop on my 08 EGCU I need to adjust for the backlash of the IDS.
I might need to install one on my SG just to make things equal....[:@]
I put the IDS on mine last week..........All I got to say is of all the extras that I have added, Rineharts, Arlen Ness Big sucker, power commander, chrome, chrome the IDS is the very last thing I would take off..........it's that good.
